... lit up, everything lit up, and huge crashes of thunder rolled over us as the rain beat down. The tent did its best, even with us inside, to lift off its pegs. I've never been in a tent under such a storm. It was fantastic. After about another hour of crashing, banging and funky light shows, and with no signs of the storm abating, we both snuggled up to sleep, earplugs muffling the worst of the apocalypse...which, let's face it, is no worse than either of our ...

... today. Straight into Austria (the border was a handful of miles from Fussen) we discovered a stunning country neither of us ever thought we'd visit. I remember seeing it from 30000ft flying to Greece many years ago and it had the wow factor then. Nothing has changed. It's incredible. ... it provided major physical challenge and probably one of the scariest moments of my years of hiking.

The start of the walk to the waterfalls or cascades, the Cascata de Fanes, was just 15 or so minutes’ drive from Cortina near Faimes. The receptionist was right; it was a comparably sedate walk along forest paths beside the Rio di Fanes. It was however a very steep route; in fact I climbed and then descended over ...

    Spectacular Dolomites Hike

Today was one of the best days hiking I have ever experienced. It was the four hour Tre Cime de Lavaredo Circuit just under an hour out of Cortina. I was told it was one of the most popular treks in Italy and being a Sunday there were hundreds of others out testing their legs. At times seeing so many from a distance on the tracks reminded me of ...
