We found our rather funky hotel via Trip advisor. It's right on the river and a nice walk away along the Rhine to the center of town. We walked into town for a nice dinner out doors. All the restaurants offer fleece blankets for the outdoor tables.

This morning we set off the explore the Rhine river area. We stopped in Bacharch for a little shopping. Found a great pastry shop and Hummels. We then drove to Bingen where we took a ...

... tour director. Later we went for a walk in Bad Schandau, the town where we are docked. "Bad" means bath or spa and this town is one of the oldest spa resorts of the Saxon Switzerland region. The town, dating back to the 1300's, is in a scenic valley with quaint timber-framed houses. It is located near the Czech border in what was the former East Germany. After lunch we boarded buses to go to ...

... ears.
-we navigated our way through the little town with nice vistas of the rock promontories in the distance. Once in the forest we lost our view a bit but were able to roughly follow our progress on the map.
-the best scenery came near the end of the hike when the trail took us right through and adjacent to the promontories. Cool stuff n good timing as we were about done.
-we found ...
