Apologies for the lack of text, today was just too exhausting to do much when we got back other than sleep! Jet lag and 10 hours of walking did not help, but a fabulous day spent in Berlin central area checked out the sights and where we want to be NYE, the stage and setup at the Brandenburg Gate is just huge and the Tier Garten looks spectacular in the snow. Tomorrow the wall, markets, check point charlie, and a couple of other sites. I can see how people fall ...

... drained here. And yes, it's because I went to see very historical things and this city has a terrible past. I'm sure there are plenty of very fun, light hearted things here as well, but they are hard to find. I think Berlin would be fantastic if you knew someone here to show you around. Anyway that taxi ride was bliss, especially climbing that steep hill and seeing some of the terrain we would have had to walk. Once at High Hawsker we picked up ...

... It was interesting though. It's camp was not so much for Jews as for other undesirables like gays and gypsies and political dissenters. Interestingly the town where the camp is now has a large number of neo nazis, some of whom are on the local council. We saw an area which was used for prisoners to test new types of boot soles. So they had to run up and down all day with packs of rocks on their backs to see which soles were the most durable. We ...

... and beautifully designed. I definitely didn't know that existed! After my rick steves tour ended, I realized Berlin is a relatively new city. It has been around for 500 years but the last century saw it destroyed, separated, then unified again. Everything is new and a lot of the East side is still under construction. The atmosphere in the city is great and I love how most of the people can speak English!! Everything in the city is changing for the better and the planners ...
