On Saturday, we took the bus to Sigulda, where we met Luis, one of my new Portuguese friends. We were planning to do some hiking in the outskirts of Gauja National Park, but when we passed by Marita's (Luis' mentor) Dutch bicycle shop, she invited us to rent/borrow a couple of bikes for the afternoon. ... decided that we wanted to see the museum of occupation, but once we got there we found it was closed, for no good reason. At that stage we were slightly at a loss as to what to do because we hadn't really prepared a contingency. The initial problem was that nobody at the hostel had heard of this beach. We asked around to a few locals who also looked perplexed and by the time we finally figured out which train station / platform we had to take, the woman at the desk stared as if we didn't know what we were letting ourselves in for.
