As regards our Romanian holiday we have booked our accommodation, a real mixture of smart(ish) hotels, wayside B&Bs and self catering. We have the outline of a route-around 4000 kms in total taking us over the Transalpina and the Transfagarasan via a few castles all the way to the Danube Delta on the Black Sea and back via the Iron Gate Gorge,Belgrade and Zargreb.

... at the Triumph dealer confirmed the bike service and Tyre change was progressing well without any problems and that he would pick me up from our hotel at 8.30am koala time (hmmmmm Austrian humour perhaps). Martin is a terrific bloke and could not be more helpful. He loves Alfa Romeos and took me for a spin in his with the roof down. He said thay are prone to breaking down but thinks they are a lot of fun. Anyone touring europe will be well ...

Left the hotel, had a short toilet break and on to Graz - 300,000 people 2nd largest city, highest amount of sunshine, driest area, 6 units, 44,000 uni students
Schlosborg castle. Town Hall statues are for craft, trade, finance, agriculture
Lunch was kasekrainer and hot dog then hiked up 260 steps to the fortress at the top of the hill, …

... at 12.32 (not so many on board after this). Got to Schwarzach-St Veit at 15.01 and caught our next train (to Klagenfurt) at 15.11 with no problems. It was just over the other side of the platform - no down and up stairs!

The EC113 had 6 seat cabins in first class - very nice if there's just the two of you. We were with a young guy from Vienna who was on holiday and he got off at Bad Hofgastein. ...

Just when you think it can’t get any better than Germany, over the mountains (and through lots of tunnels) lies the gorgeous valley of Seeboden in Southern Austria. The landscape here reminds me of Switzerland, and our little spot looks out over green meadows, a lake, lush forests and snow topped mountains. Pretty and relaxing, but a bit cold. We stayed here last year, and our sweet landlady was as happy to see us as we were to see her. ...
