... were walking by 8.30. Lauterbrunnen sits in a very steep sided valley at 796m, a bit lower than Grindelwald on the other side. Waterfalls drop over the almost vertical sides of rock slab. At the top of the cliff, on a gently sloping plateau sits Wengen. We reached Wengen in just under an hour, having climbed up through pine forest for most of the way on a fairly steep, but consistent zig zag path. ... down through the spruce, the ball of my left foot and my right knee were competing on pain levels but the jangle of the cowbells inspired me as we dropped down through the green pastures to home. Wow, what a day and how unbelievably lucky we were with the weather...absolutely stunning!

With the weather so great I said to Andy, "why don't we head back up Oberal pass? and get some better shots of it in sunshine before our short journey to Grindlewald?" He agreed and as soon as the bikes were packed it was off back up the pass to the wonderful high mountains of snow at the summit.

By train to the "Top of Europe"

... the views get better and better. Soon every inch of the surrounding area is covered in snow and the area is just beautiful.

After about 30min we arrive into the half way station of Eigergletscher at 2061m where we have to change trains and board our train for the very steep climb to the "Top of Europe".

At Eigergletsscher the snow is pretty thick on the ground but the sky is blue and the weather is just great.

Riding up this long long lift we commented on how this ride, although definitely not the most spectacular gondola ride in all of Europe, was absolutely one of the prettiest.
