A day of cold and hot
... then come out above and looking back it’s like a sea in the sky. To the East I can see the road over the pass to which I was just riding.
After 15 minutes I step out the car and onto the mountain of ice. The whole place is a mass of white snow and ice. Even though I’m almost 3km high up in the sky I’m still surrounded by even higher mountains. There are skiers all over the place having fun in the snow while I stand here with my camera ...
No marmite, just rain
... Giant's pot. Disappointed not to find a large pot of marmite, as my imagination had led me to believe... this site was created by erosion during the ice age, these are little more than deep holes in the rock, one of which requires climbing up a iron ladder and the other is a deep pool of murky water. It was certainly worth the stop, as there was of course a geocache there and on International Earth Cache day... it couldn't be missed ;).
After this we ventured back down ...
Hiking ahead of the marathon
... dry along the route. The climb back down, of course is easier but it is difficult to stay upright with the numerous loose stones underfoot.
Tomorrow Lake Garda hosts a marathon which according to the web is expecting 65,000 visitors and therefore the roads are close around the Northern end of the Lake... so it will be another en foot option for us and hopefully a trip down to Torbole and the Marmite Giant :).
