Alpenzoo & Ski Jump

... it is covered with a chocolate ganache- it was delicious, much better than the day before.

The afternoon was Greg’s choice and we went to the Bergisel Stadium which is the new ski jump facility which was opened in 2001. This was on the site of the original ski jump facility which was used for the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. You went in a cable car, then a lift to the top ...

... political advantage. He was really horrible to this wife, with her often being deprived of food. Maximilian spent furtively both through defending his Tyrolean empire and also on artwork advertising his great achievements (he was all for the printing of books to reach the masses, but these usually contained pictures for those who couldn’t read). It was amazing seeing original portraits, writing and medallions from the 1500’s. It was ...

More Snow

... a large room and then walked into the old town to have dinner at a restaurant that had Austrian food. The prices seem quite reasonable after Switzerland, but that might be because they are in Euros. I had a goulash which was quite nice but salty. Again German is the language used but most people speak English so we haven't had any problems. It was very cold as we walked home and Tara kept saying, I hope it snows tomorrow (it certainly felt cold enough).

It was a bit strange as it would cost her nothing but 5 seconds to get him a new one and make him so much more comfortable eating his meal. He took the risk and hoped that the cutlery hadn't been played with by the previous occupants of our table.

It was time to move on so we piled into the car and ...

The weather was really nice today too so once we completed the museum and the shopping, we went to the park behind the giant's head. Here they have a hedge maze shaped like the giant's hand which looked pretty cool but we didn't venture in. Instead we soaked up a little sun before moving on to the next destination.

... br>Tomorrow we are touring Hittlers Eagles Nest (a 50th birthday present to Hittler from the Nazi party). I may stay behind with the kids, because it will be a long day and not too entertaining for children. The following day will be busy as well (we are visiting Kign Ludwigs castle (aka Disney's Cinderella Castle). I am sure Will will update this blog soon as he has some stories to share.
A quaint day in the Alps

... on N. started in 1869 and in 1886 all construction stopped due to Ludwig's death. Only one third of the interior was completed at that time and sadly, he only lived within the castle for a total of 172 days. Some think that Ludwig was mad, but it may be that he was actually just envious of another time, eccentric to the point of being odd, and knew that his reign as "king" was merely a title and carried no political weight. Speculation regarding his death has long been a ...

... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.

Ohhh my stomach

... in what I could tell this was a local, family owned restaurant/pub. The decor reminded me of some hole in the wall mom and pop place that you would find in the middle of Michigan. Pictures of random people, and German landscapes, hung on the walls. The place even smelled like a place I have been sometime before but can not place. After dinner I walked briskly to my hotel partly because the temp had already dropped around to 0 C (32 F) , and partly because I was driven by my stomach.

Just like a fairytale

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
