Chris and I took the sleeper bus from Manila to Naga, which took around 10 hours. We were prepared with trousers, socks, jumpers, and our sleeping bag liners, to help keep us warm, having suffered on the previous night bus. From Naga, we caught a tricycle over to the minivan station, where we found a minivan leaving for Legaspi. Two hours later we arrived. We spent some time searching for a room, and after an hour or so ...

... play cards. So we invited them over to join in, and Verline taught us a new game. Angelo, the handy man, and a tour guide, interrupted us to walk us back down to the chapel to see if we could catch a glimpse of the men with their crosses, learning of Chris' curiosity. Unusual for a Filipino, he was 6ft3", so it felt like we had our own bodyguard for the evening. We saw plenty of men dragging their homemade crosses along the road, towards the chapel. Some were then crawling along ...

... over 1,400 metres high. It would have been good to swim in the lake after the hard climb, but they have't allowed swimming there since another accident a year or so ago. I think a climber had a heart attack or stroke - the shock of icy cold water after the climb exertion and heat. I almost swam anyway, but my guide could get suspended for not stopping me, so I settled for a box lunch (schnitzel, I think!) and an hour and a half of quiet contemplation and reflection. It was a great ...

Our travel started a little slow from Biri, the main reason being that the wind had picked up and we wouldn't be able to get a boat from the island! We waited a few hours though and eventually the wind died down enough for us to be able to get a boat back across the sea to Samar where we jumped on a tricycle to the main port and located ourselves a seat on the ferry to cross over to the very southern tip of Luzon. We had finally managed to make our way out of the Visayas and ...

Up early, had awesome pancakes at the resort restaurant before we left. Got our local guy that we made friends with over the last 2 days to take us into town in his tricycle. Caught a minivan to Legazpi, we didn't have to wait long for it to full as everybody was already there ready to go anyway. 1.5 hours to the City. We looked at about 4 different accommodations before settling on a **** bomb that was cheap and had space. We couldn't get an air con room so had to ...
