Nakhon Sawan, Thailand
... of traffic. All roads have a cycle lane which is used by bicycles and motorbikes alike (including driving in the opposite direction so you need to keep your wits about you). The scenery is paddy fields as far as the eye can see and canals on at least one side of the road. Nakhom Sawan is a very large town and having wandered around this evening looking for food we discovered there are at least another 2 hotels. One right opposite the PA ...
Nakhon Sawan, Thailand 50odd... the train managed to completely die about 500m away from the station... So Jimi walked up to the Station to meet us, it was strange to see him again - as the last time was on training - but good as well. Jimi stayed in Tharua for two nights and came to school for the day - me and Roz showed him a round and were told many funny stories about PT vols past and present. We got taken out to dinner that night in honour of Jimi's visit - the English Dept, all the vice Directors and the ...
Nakhon Sawan, Thailand hannah_davies... handicrafts room to make our Kratongs. Spent our time rolling banana leaves into pointed things, reminded me of making firelighters from newspapers. Then we had to fix them together into threes, using a ridiculous amount of staples-I went a bit mad with staples to hold mine together, which was fun! Didn't have enough time to make our Kratongs in one lesson, so at the end of 50minutes we both had to run off and teach our classes, but Roz went back ...
Nakhon Sawan, Thailand hannah_davies... him I got **** on by a bird the very next day. He placed the palm of his hand on my chest, just inside my shirt, and pushed down. I almost leaped out of the chair. He sent me straight to X-ray. The Verdict: No breaks, no cracks, just swollen ribs and muscles. He scripted me a load of anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants ...
Klong Jet, Pathum Thani, Thailand scottwoz... more interested in seeking areas which are untouched and offer that the 'real thing'. So before Mae Sariang becomes another commercial tourist destination we want to prepare the communities for this impending change. This means educating people of the negative impacts that tourism could bring, all too often communities may only see the $ signs when they see foreign tourists, unaware that eventually this could lead to a loss of ...
Thailand, Thailand mja1906... shop keepers have catapults and fire flour bombs at them to keep them at bay. That night we decided to be daring and eat out in a very 'local' café. With us not speaking Thai and they not speaking English we had to write what we wanted down in Thai writing, which is basically squiggles for letters. This was harder to do than what it sounds so even Darren stuck to just egg fried rice, just to be on the safe side!
Lopburi, Thailand darrenniki... dusty town and loaded more people. Between the fifth hour and the seventh hour, we stopped a dozen more times occasionally packing the aisle with people and letting others off at remote stops. Welcome to the world of the Thailand bus schedule. Your estimated travel time is MEANINGLESS! Unless you're on a VIP bus (which is the only bus we will take from this point forward,) you will stop anywhere and everywhere and there is ...
Sukothai, Thailand itsgotime... replace a laptop for internet functions. It doesn't, and in my opinion, many of the advertised features are a complete LIE! We purchased a wireless keyboard in hopes of using an international wireless service to do all the blog entries. The only thing it did to the same standard as a laptop was SKYPE phone calls. Otherwise, I would recommend that anyone considering the product, investigate options ...
Sukothai, Thailand itsgotime... Also had little boys from the classroom pressing thier faces to the gaps and shouting: 'hellooooooooooooo!' and 'I love yoooooooooou!'. V sweet. Also had to dissemble the shutters and doors to the classroom because they didn't shut anymore and all the fixtures were rusty, Zoe and Hannah had fun with a hammer and screwdriver for a day or two. The tiler who came in to do there floor put us to shame though when he saw me struggling with a door and just walked over and ...
