Karibu in Tanzania!

Getting to Chizzimulu Island on Lake Malawi was an experience in itself, as we embarked on the MV Ilala, an old vessel (made out of Scottish parts and a German engine, what a brilliant combination!) which travels up and down the lake day after day, delivering goods and people to otherwise often less accessible parts of the lake shore. Tempting as the money saving aspect of travelling in overcrowded third class on wooden benches might seem, we decided to "splash out" and travel in style ...

Happy days, poor XR 250,s

... great deal. It was so bizarre the rental man did not even know our names, no paperwork, no nothing except money. Bridget has not even got a bike license, Omar left his in Dar es Salem and i had a fake copy i use to show the cops because they like keeping them. The man just grinned and handed over the keys. I told him that we might have them for a few more days and we would give him a call. Another nod and smile and we were gone. Omar had a horse riding helmet, i had a ...

... off will be just as hectic as getting on.

TIP: If you're with an Overland Truck - you will likely have to pack a smaller bag to bring over to the island for the few days you're there. Depending on the ferry, they may take this to put in the luggage store for the duration of the trip, for you to pick up on arrival at the other end. This may take a long time for you bags to come out. Everyone will be yelling for their own bags, you will ...

... skirt grabbed her ****** and slowly swiveled to the ground gyrating luridly, smiling lewdly. A young man bit a finger shyly and gazed at another man adoringly. He swaggered this way and that, in a shameless bid to attract the others attention, like a male peacock performing to the object of his desire, rear end twitching, finger still in mouth. Something in his line of vision displeased him and he shook his wrist slapping his index and middle finger loudly ...

... each, one furnished in with carved ebony seats and woven cushions, the other half with a green and pink three piece suite from DFS. A sign of how faded all this was, the sultans' burial place was next door, and the graves were seriously overgrown and badly tended – can't imagine this happening to Queen Victoria.

Underneath Africa House's balcony was the night food market – an atmospheric garden of stalls ...

Stuck in Stone Town

... and then Kaiza picked us up and took us to her art gallery... apparently she's an artist... and she is amazing! Her art was so beautiful and she took us up to her studio which was incredible to see. Then she took us to get Zanzabar Pizza! Not quite the same as regular pizza back home, but famous on the island and for good reason! It's absolutely delicious! It's kind of like an omelette pizza wrapped in dough and then fried.... SOOOO good! Katie and I each had two and then split ...

Onward to Stone Town

... down to backpacker level as soon as I arrived. After carrying my luggage up three floors, I arrived at my room which is best described as a prison cell with a mosquito net. For $25 per night I shouldn't complain... but I will. There are bars on the windows, one low voltage light bulb in the ceiling and the electrical socket doesn't work. Not to mention there are ants crawling around. At least there is a fan to blow the 35 degree air around. Adapting to ...

Olympics in Africa

... The world is both smaller and vaster than we think. Smaller as we use technology to shorten the time and distance of connecting; vaster as more cultures interact and we realize the differences that make life both interesting and challenging. It's okay to want a taste of home while away. Though I missed an event I love to watch every four years, I'm grateful for the few moments I had and the surprise gifts I received.

... generous balcony and curving pool was puuuurfect. We were greeted with party whistles and gleeful looking volunteers, who arrived the day before. Having a spin tour of the house, i didnt really know what to say it was just so SHWANGA (cool)! Within minutes I found myself strolling down the beach, stars glistening and waves splashing agaisnt my feet to arrive at a local restaurant surving us all a great veg curry and ugali. I was in heaven. So how to describe that week, 15 ...

meer, maar wel nog twee ondergrondse wachtruimtes/cellen waar ze twee
dagen moesten wachten voor ze de markt op gingen.

Poeh, daar kreeg ik het wel even te kwaad hoor. Ik heb sowieso al iets
