... the edge. We saw a mangrove snake, black with golden rings curled up high in the trees, and many types of birds. Half way along we stopped and went into the jungle where our guide and paddle man picked us some longan fruit and mangosteen fresh from the trees, they were delicious! Lunch was fried chicken, tempura prawns and veg, stir fried veg in oyster sauce, spicy seafood soup, chicken and cashew nut stir fry, omelet, steamed ...

Khao Lak I must say is probably the worst place I have seen in the last two months. I think I even preferred Khon Kaen because at least there, I wasn't expecting anything. There is no charm to the city which unfortunately was hit very hard in the 2004 tsunami. It has been entirely rebuilt but I cannot for the life of me understand why they made such an ugly place. Everything is concrete and there is almost no sand on the beach so what is the appeal? We have ...

... they told us. The three teachers at our table were friendly but their English was limited. Sam, who seems to get on with everybody, endeared himself to them by coming out with quite a lot of Thai phrases.

We had finished teaching for the day then and returned to Khao Lak. As a result of the mix up over when they were required to teach, the youngsters had already booked a trip for Friday and so for me it was back to uncertainty. Would I have anyone with ...

... us really did not get the hang of this. Eventually we got through the roots and the real digging began. Many water breaks were needed, but by lunch time, we had started to make progress.
