Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi the place where the film the beach was set. Some may call it paradise while others may say paradise ruined.Long sandy beaches crystal clear waters lively bars, stalls selling buckets of cocktails rabbit warrens of stalls restaurants and tattoo parlours, a place for the young 'uns to chill in the day and party at night. So basically thats what we did sat on the beach on traditionally English deck chairs and then hit the bars at night .We did an island hopping trip and visited Maya ...

Paradise?

Ko Phi Phi was amazing in contrast to the places I've been in the last few weeks, I'm used to having a handfull of other western tourists around me, having to cover up at all times and eating street food. Not here. Phi Phi was decimated by the tsunami in 2004 and I was interested in how it had managed to rebuild itself. Don't worry, it is well and truly recovered, thriving, ridiculously expensive, busy and full of tourists. It was actually quite nice to ...

3rd Class No Sleeper

... in butter. It's then served with condensed milk and sugar. Unfortunately there were no pancake carts out this morning for breakfast and no obvious market for fruit. It worked out for the best, though, because we happened upon a restaurant on a side street with tasty fried rice and orange smoothies and a nice woman who spoke just enough English. Now we catch a cab to the ferry to take us to Koh Ya Noi island where we'll spend the next 5-7 days.

Ko Phi Phi aka The Beach

... the bungalows are the simplest weve had thus far, with thatched roofs, walls and floors...it really feels like youre going to fall right through....the scenery makes up for the housing though...theres an enoumous cliff directly infront of our front porch, that wraps around the cove of the crescent shaped beach..its pretty cool...as for the nite life here...wow, the biggest spider ive ever scene just dropped down from his web and ...

Söndagsmidddag i Kuala Lumpur

happy birthday to me!!

... do. I'm really just trying to see into the darkness and decide which of these men does not smell like alcohol...and who can actually carry both of us and our luggage on their cart. So we settle on this young guy who believes he can do it....I'm just thankful to hop on board and have someone carry me out of this hell hole we've arrived at. In our little cart powered by a tiny motorbike, we negotiate thick, dirty, fast-moving traffic...and little ...

Relaxing...

... This place has been overrun by stray dogs who have made it their home! We Rob and I do a 180 and head back to the sanctuary of the Merlin since the dogs are fierce. I don't speak Dog but I know they are bellowing "get away from our house or else". We walk back along the beach and having just seen the evidence of the tsunami's devastation, I try my hardest not to look at the beach in case I see a bloated body of some description. So haunting and haunted!

Muay Thai, nothin to be scared of! Honest

... I get punched (really) but also cheer when I eventually land one too! And they love my beer gut too, constantly giving it a shake and saying "pompooey" (fat) while laughing. I feel like I'm there version of the laughing Buddha, who's belly westerners rub for luck. Its like, if we give the pompooey falang's belly a shake we'll have a good days fishing or something. Really I'm gonna have to ask them, if that's the case, not only am I providing ...

... Carpenter. He thought it was really funny and we just went along with it all. The plan was for him to drive us around to some of the major sites we wanted to see and since it was a really reasonable price he was offering (less then $2), we agreed to go with him. Before we left, we discussed our route, mainly a viewpoint over the city and one of the Buddhist temples nearby . He asked if we wanted to do any shopping and we explained as clearly as we could that we ...

Phang Nga to Nai Thon Beach

... The room itself was pretty grotty especially compared to the Phang Nga Inn which was the same price and was beautiful. However, it is directly across from the beach and does take credit card so it wasn;t too bad. As soon as we arrived we hit the beach and there was quite a strong undertow and large waves so the kids thought it was great. Nai Thon Beach is really quite nice and not at ...
