Tenerife Amable

... ranks high in the spectacular stakes, and after all those Greek transfers the winding road up is no longer a worry! We walked the whole way from Playa Paraiso back to Los Cristianos, partly on hilly rocky tracks and partly on the seafront prom, and have also found one or two quiet beaches and some splendid over cliff walks to the apparent ghost town of Palm Mar. Andy has also achieved his ambition of getting from Adeje to Arona over the cliff ...

it's mah birthday

What a great place to celebrate a birthday - warm and sunny and on holiday. A bit of a change from the UK where it would no doubt be cold, dark and wet, and nobody would have any money because they'd spent it all at Christmas and hadn't been paid in January yet... Anyway, started the day with coffee and fresh paw paw, and then headed off for a cycle north of SS. The first part involved climbing up to the top of town, and ...

Flying Home For Christmas

... I did get the view of Gran Canaria so have seen five of the seven Canaries in this trip, and Andy thinks he could just see Fuerteventura and Lanzarote from the top.
In addition to all the wonderful things we´ve seen, we´ll take back some more everyday memories of Tenerife. These include:
-swimming in the sea in December at Playa del Duque, with the backdrop of the splendid hotel and the even more splendid mountains, sometimes covered in black cloud while we bask in ...

The Valley of the Great King

... but friendly landlady of the Casa Lolita and rolled round to Valle Gran Rey. We were again accosted at the port (people do this if you have backpacks) and settled on the apartment offered by the happily multilingual Adolf - Valle Gran Rey is as German-dominated as Las Americas is by the British. The valley was the home of the main chieftain of La Gomera before the Spanish conquest (el grand queso?) and is as majestic as the name implies, a colossal four kilometre long ...

Escaping the Winter

... Americas for the architecture, but it is all done for the convenience of the visitor and a lot of work goes into making it look good - planting, painting etc. It is almost Disneyesque in places! The setting cannot be faulted, between the sea and the mountains - our bargain apartment has an unexpectedly colossal terrace with a 270 degree view over the water, the land and the resort - makes for great sunsets.

We are here for R and R ...

The Floating Mountain

... Refusal´ when I decided I was no longer having fun!We walked past La Caleta to the Tenerife hippy colony, a different world not far from all the mayhem. This led to even more wonderful views - plus relief that we didn´t stay in Playa Paraiso ´- and a drink at the bar in El Puertito, a one horse town where even the horse has the day off. So even Tenerife has its quiet spots.Anyway, here on La Gomera there´s no neon, no touts ...
