Delightful Delphi

... 8217;t quite fathom why the bus hadn’t gone to Omonia Sqaure since there were no traffic restrictions along that route. However it was an opportunity for us to stretch our legs after a day of mostly sitting down. We bought a baguette, some cheese and olives and some wine from the neighbouring general store and had this as a meal in our room as we sorted photos, internet and diary. We also did some packing for our cruise which starts tomorrow.

Ye gods(2),,,,(cont.)!

... Pick up holy (...!) plastic bag in act of atonement. Lyn walky-talkies me: she is ready. Be there in just over an hour I promise.
As I descend, the clouds melt away: perhaps my gestures are acknowledged, after all...
Spend rest of afternoon relaxing in campsite - not something we have done much of, lately.
Also successfully un-bug laptop, so am able to post this in real time (virtually).
Ye gods(2)!!!

... Ruins of Temple of Apollo even more striking. The natural landscape alone is breathtaking: 8,000 years of recorded history inflates the impression manyfold. The things they assembled here, with their technology & transportation, just beggar belief!
A glass of chilled retsina to watch the precious sun go down prompts reflection on the many centuries of human (and otherwordly) strife and struggle in this magical land.
Have really arrived, at last!
... there are some hot springs as well.

In the area there are a couple of campsites, although I don’t know if campsites are so popular nowadays since hotels were not very expensive, at least this year!

GOOD NEWS!

The house is ok! My God…we are at ease now, but still worrying as to what we shall find on the way home.

.

Delphi

... between the skiing season and the summer tourist season no one was there. It was a gorgeous warm day with a brilliant blue sky, and the Delphi Oracle was one of the most beautiful ruins we have seen yet. It reminded me a lot of Machu Picchu because it is the setting which makes the ruins so spectacular. The museum was excellent, and to see the ...

At the End of the Day, We're All Fruits

... we headed back to the hotel. It's now past the end of the tourist season, so there were no disco clubs were open for the students. I was secretly relieved about that because they all stayed in and watched movies and I got to spend some more time hanging out. I sat with a group of students watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding in the hotel lobby. The movie was in English with Greek subtitles -- how surreal is that when you're watching a movie about Greek people while you're in Greece.

... for me, but in typical Maria fashion, I was incorrectly advised about the public transportation to the bus, but luckily I figured it out and made it to the airport on time. However, my flight decided to be delyaed one hour, so that put a damper in the plans a bit. I had plans to meet up with Meghan IN the Athens airport promptly at 1:50pm (one hour after her scheduled arrival time) and we would go together into the city to find our ...

Sacred Delphi

... of whomever was in vogue at that moment. Those crazy Romans!

Anyway, Anitazizi then marched us off to a large retail establishment where we went through the whole shill thing again and then were set loose to SHOP. Following which we boarded the bus and retraced our tracks back to Patras and over the wonderful bridge. We were told of the engineering challenges faced in building this thing, not the least of which included tectonic-plate movement ...

Delphi and Kalambaka

... Being able to stand in the same starting blocks that some naked men stood was kind of odd, but also a once in a lifetime experience! After we walked through Delphi, soaked-I might add, we went to eat lunch in a local restaurant. One of the things that is hard to get used to here is how late they eat lunch-no where even opens for lunch until noon, but once you get to the restaurant, you find it was worth the ...
