    ... There is mutual respect and co-operation between the tourist boats and the fishermen. The latter set their traps so they don’t interfere with passage and the tourist boats slow down to gently drift past the nets.

    We had heard about the stray dogs that are common in Romania. Well, lots of them live in the boatyards along the delta. I'm not sure what happens to them in winter.

    ... arms of the Danube. The major shipping channel is the ‘Sulina’ which is big enough for ocean going freighters. Between them is a network of channels and lakes and big nature preserves. We enjoyed looking at the serene landscape and saw lots of birds: white pelicans, egrets, herons, cormorants, swans, ducks and a water snake.
