After the market we headed north up the coast where we found several closed campgrounds near the hill town of Scarlino. The town was scarily perched atop a steep hill, with a road that must have started out as a donkey. It was dark by the time we finally made it to the top, which really made the effect dramattic with the lighted walls contrasting against the dark sky beyond. ... good stuff for sale. Alta bought a cute Italian dress and leggings and Jed bought a small hatchett. We found a couple of large dog beds for Liberace's lower bunk. However, the best part of this market had to be the food vendors selling hot Italian sausage and roast pork sandwiches. Jed wishes he could buy more and stash them for later somehow. ... but was all in a good days work. Quick shower and we were back around the dinner table having an English Sunday Roast cooked on the wrong day in the wrong country by two Yorkshire girls. It was really nice, the yorkies were great but it was a bit of a culture shock for Bruno who decided he would cook for the rest of the week! Lots more laughing and local red wine.

... from the 12th century stuck in a stone....and if this brings up vague recollections of fables, it's not King Arthurs Excalibur, but there are plenty of stories surrounding it, one of which says the story of King Arthur is based on this sword and the tale of Galgano!!

... and I lie under the bright light of the moon, exquisitely happy and at peace....before finally heading to my room to find the curtains closed, my bed turned down with chocolates on the pillows, dimmed lights, and I'm enveloped by an incredibly luxurious and comfortable bed with the softest of sheets....heavenly.

If you ever get a chance to come to Tuscany...come and experience this place!
