Our relaxed schedule meant that we had one last day to enjoy what Fira could offer. We visited the museum that houses the finds from Akrotiri – lots of pottery and some interesting wall paintings. A small gold animal figurine was particularly impressive. The museum is modern and well displayed, but as we were the only visitors there we didn't really enjoy the personal security supervision that followed us from exhibit to exhibit like a distrustful overseer.

... looks flat. It’s not. We climbed, following our noses because we were not really sure what we were meant to be doing. Eventually we reached a sign that said 'Point A’. Hmmm. Kind of promising. I said to Heath ‘But how do we get from Point A to point B?’ We all laughed in a nervous way as we followed the path ever higher. The landscape of the volcano is virtually completely desolate. ... walk around it and get out onto the headland to see off in the distance islands dotting the Aegean.

Feeling a bit peckish we headed down to Perissa Beach to see if we could find some lunch. Lucky for us there was a tavern open that had seats right on the beach so we enjoyed the late afternoon sun watching the waves crash on the black pebble beach, eating some typical taverna food. I have to say that we enjoyed the best Greek salad we had eaten in Greece.

... because we walked slowly, took breaks and lots of photos. At times the route is on a cobbled path and at times it’s just a goat track. It climbs up and down and skirts the cliff edge at all times. It really is something to experience. Along the route are dotted a series of picture-perfect chapels. I was disappointed to find them locked though.

Although the walk is only 12 km, its climbs and descents make it very challenging, at least for us and we were completely buggered ...

... used the life boy behind the boat to tow people, nearly tipped our boat over once and Scott had to bail so the boat wouldn't flip, jumped off a 10-12 metre cliff. It was a day of zooming around, drinking beer and swimming on secluded beaches. GREAT DAY!

... Ya'll, it was incredibly windy up there! I could barely stand up without the wind threatening to knock me over and down the hill! It was crazy. We feared even taking Seamus out for pictures it was so windy. Then we started down. The descent began well and had good intentions of being pretty easy when we ran into a slight problem: no trail. ... in the morning though, all i seem to be doing is sleeping. Probably due to my lack of nutrition. but dont pass judgement yet though parents, just wait till the end of the story. So Friday meant heading back to Athens. Which was probably another reason i didnt want to get out of bed. Because its still the shoulder season they dont have all the ferries running yet, but we were lucky as we were the first group to get the highspeed ferry, which was 3 hours apposed to 7 - 12 hours ...

... where on earth the so called famous nightlife was! All we could find was a sports bar filled with a whole lot of drunk Aussies! Can find that anywhere back home! Somebody suggested that we follow the people and crossing over the Piazza and past the very beautiful Monastery of St. John (Ag Loannis) we soon found ourselves venturing up the brightly lit white steps of Chora, through numerous alleyways and past tempting boutiques until suddenly we arrive ...

In the evening, we went to Selene for dinner. This is the most expensive meal throughout our trip! The ambient was quite nice, but the food is nothing to shout about. I guess we prefer the gyros to Greek fine dining...

Since everything is always pretty much all the same day in and day out, here's a look into what my days consist of in Ios.
