The next few blogs are of separate trips that we did: Sue to Rhodes in the Greek Isles (on her list of "must-do's!" for many, many years) and The Hague in the Netherlands (something she didn't DARE hope she could one day do), and John to Istanbul and Gallipoli in Turkey, a place I have always wanted to visit to acknowlege the great sacrifice given by so many there.
We both flew out from London Heathrow and the 16th of November and returned to ...
... as Manuel from faulty towers - only he got everything right, he did all the cooking (he was a bloody good cook!!)...
Koycegiz is a small village/town set on a lake - on the west coast of Turkey, inland from the Aegean Sea, famed for it's bird-watching and thermal baths.
I took a day-long boat tour the next morning (I unusually woke early, but that was more of a direct result of the ...
I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
Another beautiful day. Sunny 78 degrees on the island of Rhodes. We travel to Lindos half way down the island. To see the Acropolis were Paul spoke to the Greeks. A long climb to the top with a view to forever. Just outstanding. Back to the boat early to catch some sun by the pool.
I am going to upload a couple of pics from yesterday on Myconos to give you an idea of the beauty here.

... all we could of the castle, we ventured outside the walls to go check out some ancient ruins. On the map, there was a big green park with some old ruins labeled, and it didn't look too far away. What the map didn't show was that it was uphill, hard to find, and when we got there it wasn't a park at all, but just an ancient stadium and some old columns surrounded by ...
Rhodes, Dodecanese, Greece tommcattAfter a quick breakfast, we headed off to the port to catch our 9am ferry to Rhodes, but it looked like everyone else in Fethiye had the same idea. The boat was full of those annoying package holiday makers on a day trip to Rhodes.
After a rough ride, we bought our tickets to Athens (Rhodes to Athens €53 each, one way) and had the whole day to spend in Rhodes before our next ferry departed.
Rhodes was famous worldwide in the ancient world for the Colossus of Rhodes ...
... in a very nice view with the owner and his buddy who were taking a smoke break. Not bad for a day that didn't have any plans eh? So the valuable lesson I learned from today was that when you are traveling and plans get cancelled or delayed, just start walking. Something memorable will happen. I feel like this blog entry should be a Hallmark card or something, I need to do something a little less... wrapped up in a bow. Oh I know, we had a ...
Selcuk, Turkey msu... perches outside a bar - to me their plumage looked thin and dull after seeing these birds in the wild. "That one's called Stinky and the other's called Chucky", the barman said in response to a child's questioning. Later Michelle fed them the nuts we had been carrying as emergency rations.
In Corfu it had been burgers and fish and chips and Pizzas. Here the restaurant menus boast fresh fish, octopus, grilled squid and peppered steak. And the prices reflect it. Tourists here ...
