... and no one seemed to understand my pronunciation of "Ko Tao," even struggling with the ticket itself. Eventually one woman sussed out my destination and as it turned out the idiot driver had taken me to the wrong part of town, back I got into the bus and was driven to a different office ten minutes away. Once I arrived, a guy of perhaps eighteen manned the desk, accompanied by a docile dog on a sofa nearby. He spoke decent English, took my ticket and proceeded ...
Surat Thani, Thailand alastair6... how cool!!!

Then into some caves by bamboo boat - big and cavey and far too warm....but also home to a huge spider - see photo.

We ate dinner later that evening as the Sun set over the jungle and the whole place turned very dark instantly. A few more brave trips to the toilet in the dark (Dean accompanying Michelle!) and off to bed under a mosquito net - hot and uncomfortable, but cool at the same time!

The next morning, we went on an early morning boat trip to ...
Kao Sok, Thailand johannajulien... their face, is beyond me. The rest of the van, happily snored on. The rest of the trip was just long and uncomfortable. Our driver ate about 4 meals throughout the drive (how do they stay so skinny?) We arrived in Surat Thani just after mid-day. Excellent, we thought! The ferry station was about 80kms out of town and we were informed that ferries (or speedboats) leave every 1/2 half an hour so there was an outside ...
Surat Thani, Thailand katd... Bangkok in style: ...or, well, "style." ... it's all relative, ya know! ---Quote of the Night--- "All they had left was a 3rd class bench on the 12am train, I'm gonna be crammed on plywood all night, F#CK." - The Scammed Belgian ---Vital Signs--- Food Poisonings = ZERO despite 1 near-miss. Travel Weariness = With the Full Moon Party firmly in the past, weariness was back down to happy levels. Mood = Ponderous, Measured Happy Time Till Home = 2 Days (?)
Phun Phin, Thailand sirrocko711... gemstone of Ko Phi Phi. Our stay might've been short, but not so short as to miss this island's unique charm that will not easily be forgotten or matched. Ko Samui and Pha-Ngan would fail to dethrone Phi Phi as the best of the three islands we visited. The ferry ride was pleasant enough but arrived in Krabi too late to catch a cross-isthmus bus to the other coast. Geographical lesson: Thailand has two main island paradise coasts: the Andaman Sea, home to Phi ...
Surat Thani, Thailand sirrocko711... outside our room all night and was there first thing in the morning with his tail wagging (maybe he, like the monkeys was hoping that I had some food!). So glad our group voted to only stay one night...in theearly evening we lost all power (hot, humid and no fan - yuck!), then in the morning I went to shower and nearly stepped on a frog (not sure how he got in). We had our fun and it was off to the island of Koh Samui!!
Surat Thani, Thailand tias_travels... tapeworm protruding from their *****. Taught us of the age-old technique of visualising decomposing corpses to alleviate sexual thoughts. Frequently swore. Jonathan can definitely see himself in his shoes in a couple of decades. Thai monk (Tan Meddi) was crazy - shouting chanting at top of his lungs through the microphone. He was sick and kept doing long, loud dribbly sniffs into the microphone to prove it. Kept going on about how he might well die ...
Khao Sok, Thailand heureux_qui_comI'm afraid I'm playing catch up on my blog so i'm a little behind but I should be able to catch up now! First the good news - my old camear has recovered! After two weeks of leaving it under the fan it appears to have dried out and it works! Yay! So the only annoyance is that I wasted 100 GBP on a now dead new camera, could be worse, at least I have a working camera still. Ipod is till a bit dodgy, battery only lasts about 4 hours but its not too bad. So, yesterday was fun :o) I went with ...
