... some weight on his badly broken leg. However in true Papas spirit he made his way up 3 flights of stairs onto the ferry. All the locals on the ferry seem to know him and stopped for a chat to see how he was recovering. Very nice people. We arrived at Vathi then jumped back in the Fiat, drove over the mountain to the other end of Ithaca. Kioni is the village our grandfather was born and grew up in! It's ...

All too soon my relaxing time was over as the next day, the sound of the bikes could be heard arriving back in the marina at 12.15pm, just in time for lunch. The three of them had had a wonderful trip, and the new bike went well.

... we could get a fabulous sail if you wanted to spend all day 'beating to windward' or we help ourselves along with some sail and motor. The wind is also so variable in speed and direction that it’s best to try and make the most of any favourable direction whilst you can. Any saving on diesel is a bonus.

So after a mixture of ‘beating to windward’ and then ending with a brilliant ‘goosewing’ finish we got to Patras (the ...
