... our last full day we signed up for some dolphin swimming. This was the weirdest day of my life. Turns out the dolphin swimming is not on the island. Our driver picked us up and we had to take the ferry back to the main land and then drive TWO HOURS to the park. We were almost in Cambodia. ... are covered almost to shoreline with pristine rain forest. Her beauty, so missing in many other parts of Thailand is due to the fact that she is almost completely given over to National Parkland, largely set up by the King. However, her edges are fast becoming dominated by developers from the mainland. While, high rise hotels are not allowed, some of the complexes are 3 floors high. ... The house itself was small but comfortable. It had its own bathroom and we did a deal for 300 baht a night instead of the usual 350 or £6. We dumped the bags in the room put on our swimming costumes and checked out the sea. Heaven. The hammock was popular too with me and Martin having to take strict turns to avoid a domestic! We can see ourselves being here for a while........

Finally, time for a beach! To get there we caught public busses, from Ayutthaya to Bangkoks bus station, and then to Trat. We stayed the night in Trat and then caught the car ferry over to Ko Chang and then set about finding somewhere to stay. We had been recommended to head for Kai bae beach, so we did. ... local van stopped though and a guy drove the bike up the rest of the hill (half thought he might be stealing it as he never asked) and we walked up. The rest of the road was nice and safe, so no further problems. Managed to reattach the wing mirrors so only had to pay for cracking the front of the bike. Anyway, we then had a relaxing evening drinking, eating and watching people dancing with fire on the beach. An amazing birthday and a lesson learned...Ko Chang is too hilly to drive about!
