Disappointingly tacky. The setting is very photogenic, but it's over-run with tourists. Tourists gawping at other tourists isn't my idea of a fun holiday.

... get my Iphone out to look at where we are on the map and we are ages away from where the river leads out to the ocean. A lot further than we realised anyway. But we decide to kick on as we can see it in the distance and we notice the huge waves crashing over, and that’s definitely something I wanted to see. We enjoyed another free walking tour (guided by a trusty Portuguese speaking Irishman) and got introduced to some amazing local food and drink, including Francesinha. The city lent support to the explorations of its native son, Henry the Navigator, in the 15th century, and Portugal owes its constitutional government to the Liberal Revolution of 1820 that began here. We started with a drive around the town; to the ...
... amazing tiled murals they are well worth a visit. We wondered for several hours visiting the Cathedral tower “ Terreiro Da
Se” and Lello Bookshop which is featured in the movies of Harry Potter, the book shop was amazing but unfortunately the photo police were out and pictures were forbidden unless you were sneaky. After the book store we visited the night markets and a coffee shop before finding somewhere for ...
... bread with cheese and smothered in sauce. Pretty good, but I could only eat like a third of it. After lunch, we left the tour and walked across the river to sit and take pictures of the town. We were tired from walking all day, so we just sat for while. Then we went to do some free Port tastings. Porto makes a ton of port, which is sweet desert wine. The white port was absolutely vile, but the red port was good. We ...
