After a beautiful, restful evening, we were up early to eat out on deck and watch our entrance into the port of Izmir, Turkey. Izmir is the third largest port in Turkey and has four million people. The port seems huge, once again all sorts of sea vessels, and cargo ships. The weather was a cool 53f but clear and no wind. At 0800 we boarded our tour buses. We were required to pick up tourist passes for the port and return them when we came back to the port. (Turkish ...
Ephesus, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey beanblossom... harbour became silted over seemed out of sync with the rest of Europe in its time of immersion in the Dark Ages. So much knowledge was lost or suppressed at that time by those who contributed nothing to the rational and wonderful development of the world. The civilisations that created places such as Ephesus and the Acropolis were so advanced and their writings and thoughts were burned in the large libraries they had created by the pagan ignorant and the Christian destroyers. How ...

Selçuk, İzmir, Turkey pajas... of the earthquake, many buildings fell and dirt buried a lot of the city, which, actually helped to preserve it. In order to reveal the main walkway, archaeologists had to dig down 10 metres. The library that has been built as they think it looked is built with about 50% of the original materials. It is believed that when the earthquake happened, those that survived moved to another area nearby and when they needed materials, they simply ...

VATHI SAMOS, Greece greekcypriot... in was the enormous theater. In Acts 19, we read that the silversmiths were most unhappy with Paul and his companions because they were hurting business. See, as I said, Paul had to decide how to approach each part of his mission. Does he go and make friends, or does he go and stir people up, or some combination. Well, he certainly stirred people up in Ephesus. At the end of my visit there, I walked down a small path by the ...
Selcuk, Izmir, Turkey jimmyrh... a big circle, but dad and mom messed with it Bata- Bing Bata- Boom they fixed it! So we went on our merry way to our hotel in Selcuk called the Bella hotel! After resting for a bit we walked to a little shop and got some pita bread thing, I bought some really cute shorts. Selcuk, Turkey turkeytrotters... I wondered how I was going to manage staying at the home this time as Serap had been my trusty translator the other times I had been there, and nobody else spoke that much English. We received a hearty welcome when we got to the home, and it felt like no time had passed since the last time I had been there. In true Turkish style, the first order of business after our arrival was a meal. It sure was great to have that home cooking again. I didn't realize how much I missed it ...
Selcuk, Izmir, Turkey gayegibson... ancient ruins and historical monuments, such as the site of the first ever Olympics, being threatened by fires. Traveling has made me increasingly aware of the fragility of life, property, and nature, and I hope that the news in the USA is more concerned with supporting these countries and increasing world awareness than it is with Britney Spears coming out with a new album. I arrived in Turkey after a one hour ferry ride from Rhodes. I had a renewed sense of ...
