AM- Wow, woke up to thunder & pouring rain this morning, that should drop the temperature a bit. Tomas says this has been the hottest summer for more than 25 years. Shops, particularly in the Old Town areas, do not have air conditioning and can't cope with hot weather. Tomas headed off for a medical in Klaipeda then his first day at the timber mill in Prusaliai as a fitter, it's 60 kms away! But they are moving out to Kartena shortly and into ...

... the car, what a ripoff! So we drove to the White House, once the summer residence of the President of Lithuania. Laimonas & I had a quick dip in the lake, very clean water & about 20C. Onto to our train at 5:30pm, we depart 10 minutes later, right on schedule! Into ...

Our last visit yesterday was to Regina's brother, Rimantas, who is Alex's cousin. He has a large family of three ...

... and there is a great deal of renovation going on. I have been told, however, that there is an issue in getting workers for jobs such as building and retail. These are low paid, so these young workers are travelling to England, France, Sweden and America etc as they get more money over there! Lithuania is now getting workers from Belarus to fill these ...

    Walking off the family hospitality

I am so glad we are doing a lot of walking, as our family is very hospitable and the food is very, very good! Cabbage rolls, cold beetroot soup and a great deal of pastries and cake! So I really need to walk a lot! Skoudas is quite a large town near the Latvian border and there a large number of smaller villages scattered throughout the relatively flat landscape. Many people ride bikes around here and they do not have to contend with the hills we have in Perth. You ...
