On to New Brunswick

... to the Maritimes and turned it into a B&B with an attached tea house. We were somewhat amused by the state of the home, obviously suffering a little from old age. It was getting to be slightly unlevel, and when you walked from one room to the other, you ‘climbed’ going one direction and ‘ran downhill’ going the other (slight exaggeration). However, a very good host and an excellent cook with a lot of home made fare to offer.

Went for a brisk walk ...

On the way out, frosh from the University of Moncton at Edmundston, dressed in diapers soaked with mustard, were conducting a scavenger hunt so we ran away.

A new four lane highway has been opened along the Saint John ...

Moncton - Hopewell Rocks

... themselves! Sometime after my second cup of (instant) coffee the kids woke up and Kira played with her stuffed chickadee that mimics the real call of the bird. The real chickadees then answered and it was a funny little caucophony of whistles while I finished packing up the site. It was a much better take down since I had done most of the packing last night. We headed out through the fishing/tourist town of Alma and took some pictures at low tide where ...

Rocks 'n stuff

Spent the morning doing the tourist thing - went to an Acadian museum, visitors' centre, etc. The most eventful part of today was a short afternoon drive from Moncton to Hopewell Rocks, which is in (on? near?) the Bay of Fundy, the site of the highest tides in the world. It was actually quite a hike to get from the visitors' centre to the flowerpot rock formations, but definitely worth it to see ...

But, as my mother said, better to be laughing at how early you are than crying because you missed your flight. Got into ...

Today I left my Footprints on the Ocean Floor

... in the world that has a recorded 16 foot tide. We had waited all morning for the tide to go out so that we could walk on the ocean floor and walk around the Bay, literally. We found the much talked about flower pots. At high tide they are little islands with trees and low tide they look like flower pots. We walked down the iron steps that had been put in for the tourists benefit and headed on our walk through thick wet ocean ...
