... The high point was when Mr. Wilson was asked what he had learned in China and he gave a detailed descripton of how to make Chinese dumplings. When we had our farewell ceremony Wednesday afternoon, both sets of students were quite emotional. Everyone was moved deeply and pledged to meet again. Our students were overwhelmed by the gifts they received both large and small. We each received a Haicheng Senior High School uniform. The Chinese seemed to appreciate our gifts: a ...

We posed for pictures one after the other, but were glad to do so. All of us were overwhelmed by the affection. Spirits are still high for our students. No homesickness that I am aware of.

The mayor requested that I assist in making contacts with our Indiana industries to establish economic relations. I don't think he understood that I'm not really that influential. The mayor gave all of us jade bracelets. We took many group pictures of various configurations. The computer I am using is not able upload pictures, so those will ...
Haicheng, Liaoning, China ruthwarrenWhen we got to the Shenyang airport, the groups were divided and taken to their respective schools. The Clay group will probably not see the Discovery group for several days, so I can only post news about our group. We were met graciously at the airport by the principals and other staff from both schools, and then taken by bus. The Clay group stopped in a town for lunch, which all agreed ...
Haicheng, Liaoning, China ruthwarren... i was right, when he put the needles in there was a little twinge of pain as he twisted them into place, but as soon as his hands were removed from the needles, I no longer even felt them. I got a needle in each temple, one in the middle of my forehead, one in each side of my nose and one in hand, by the base of my thumb. As each one was inserted he stopped to ask me, 'teng mei teng?" or does it hurt?. Sometimes i said a little, others I just ...
Anshan, Liaoning, China mth5003Well, I know i've been bad about keeping up with the blog, but I've been pretty busy this week. I finally started back with all my classes after almost two weeks of no middle school. With the national day holiday starting up, I had to work over the weekend, which was sort of a surprise, it was fun, but tiring. I've been adopted by a Chinese family, which is great but means that i've been busy not ...
Anshan, China mth5003... an object of luxury I was told, the last teacher left it, bless his or her heart, no big differences there except all the buttons are in Chinese and its like the ones we use to have in the dorms. No buttons, just a knob you turn to decide how long...so all times are estimates at best. Fridge is the same, but I have some nifty contraption that turns the power off every 70 minutes for 10 minutes to save energy...pretty cool. All of my cooking is ...
Anshan, China mth5003... While we were exploring, we also found the jade market, which is filled with all kinds of beautiful and amazing sculptures, as well as countless bracelets, i can't wait until i finally get paid so i can justify buying another bracelet, after the unfortunate destruction of my old one at Mario's a few months ago. The people of China continue to amaze me with their incredible friendliness and eagerness to meet and speak to foreigners...as ...
Anshan, China mth5003... s than ever!), i really am beginning to think that he's my guardian angel here in China. We spent the whole afternoon talking, then went for a walk in 219 park, a large and beautiful park that is less than a block from my apartment. After that we hung out at my apt for a while then went to get dinner, it was pretty tasty. Then i just watched a dvd and passed out...waking up once again at 5 a.m. I've noticed its only in the mornings when I'm sitting there trying to ...
Anshan, China mth5003... which way and there are no designated lanes, no one seems to get angry. Drivers only honk horns to warn cars, riders or walkers to get out of the way before they get hit. People get around in a variety of ways: bus, car, sarluan (3 wheeled car), motorbikes, motorbikes with carts, bicycles with carts behind and bicycles with carts in front, small covered buggies, horse and cart (yes! horses in a city of 1 million), and of course, walking. Everything is on ...
