Bali is beautiful

We arrived late last night after a very long day in the air, but were greeted at the Airport by Dewa, our Driver for the week. He brought us bottles of chilled water and took us directly to the Resort, so we could go to Bed. The Pool Villa is Amazing. We are going to try to attached some photos, we will see if it works. Buddy is having a great time and making lots of new friends. We going to do some Spa time today, then off to some shopping. Thanks for enjoying our trip with us. Scott and Ilona

Last full day in Bali

Well, we are waiting for Dewa, our driver to pick us up for our last full day in Bali. We are going to be looking at some carvings and some glass today, hoping to find a craftsperson that can do the gate we want for the house. I have had a great time shopping and seeing how busy and productive everyone is here. They are sweet people and have been very kind to us. Scott has had a great time too, and we have had some wonderful meals. The country is so beautiful, and rich with culture. We are ha...

KL Airport -> Bali Aug 6, 2004 After a minor bus breakdown in the Cameron Highlands I reached KL safely in under five hours. The bus ride was along a one lane road (in places) so the car/bus/motorbike horns became a key instrument for driving. The mountainous road finally dumped us onto a major highway leading to KL. I was quickly reminded of just how immobilizing the heat can be in KL and sought indoor a/c as much as possible. I stayed in a small room at a Hostel in Chinatown for $15 sinc...

... Only when it took me a good few seconds to get to my feet did it dawn on her that I had just been electrocuted!! The compassion of a nurse eh! The whole light fixture was live! I told the guestroom owner and as he went to grab the light I stopped him. He didn&#8217;t understand really what I was telling him. No doubt he&#8217;ll soon find out the hard way.<br> Today we did about a 6km walk around Ubud and the monkey forest sanctuary. This took us most of the day due to the fact ...

... beach! It wasn't too hard of a plan for us to follow. And it would be Julia's last day to go to Keremas and her last day to eat our favorite Jaffle's at the restaurant on the beach. The jaffle is like a panini sandwich, but the two pieces of bread of grilled to surround and completely enclose the entire sandwich. I get mine with egg, cheese, and tomato inside. I crave them everyday, knowing I desperately need the protein from the egg considering how little meat I eat here. We ...

As I emerge from the arrivals section wondering how long I can walk through this heat and humidity before collapsing I find myself being virtually assaulted and dragged into money changing booths and taxicabs, before finally I sight a tall, white man heading for me... it is my principle and I am saved! ... hawkers, we haven't really met anyone we haven't liked. Even while waiting to pay our Visa-on-Arrival fees, we spoke with some wonderful people and then the guys that brought our rental car to the airport couldn't have been nicer (they actually brought 2 cars so we could choose the one we liked best). Our hotel, the Bali Dynasty in Kuta is only a 10 minute drive from the airport and so we're really off to a great start! Day Two did not ...

Outraged

Today was a revelation of sorts. I spent the afternoon absorbed in a WRI publication called, Trial By Fire (http://www.wri.org/publication/trial-f ire-forest-fires-and- forest-policy-indonesias-era-crisis-and -reform) The report has dramatically changed my frame of reference. I have always been curious about the trans-boundary haze that has enveloped Singapore with choking intensity and unfailing regularity. I remember taking pictures of the 'hazy' days ...
