Last full day in Bali

Well, we are waiting for Dewa, our driver to pick us up for our last full day in Bali. We are going to be looking at some carvings and some glass today, hoping to find a craftsperson that can do the gate we want for the house. I have had a great time shopping and seeing how busy and productive everyone is here. They are sweet people and have been very kind to us. Scott has had a great time too, and we have had some wonderful meals. The country is so beautiful, and rich with culture. We are ha...

Bali is beautiful

We arrived late last night after a very long day in the air, but were greeted at the Airport by Dewa, our Driver for the week. He brought us bottles of chilled water and took us directly to the Resort, so we could go to Bed. The Pool Villa is Amazing. We are going to try to attached some photos, we will see if it works. Buddy is having a great time and making lots of new friends. We going to do some Spa time today, then off to some shopping. Thanks for enjoying our trip with us. Scott and Ilona

KL Airport -> Bali Aug 6, 2004 After a minor bus breakdown in the Cameron Highlands I reached KL safely in under five hours. The bus ride was along a one lane road (in places) so the car/bus/motorbike horns became a key instrument for driving. The mountainous road finally dumped us onto a major highway leading to KL. I was quickly reminded of just how immobilizing the heat can be in KL and sought indoor a/c as much as possible. I stayed in a small room at a Hostel in Chinatown for $15 sinc...

... s wood carvings. Every building in the town is dedicated to selling busloads of people wooden statues, and the one we visited was no different. A brief 2 minute talk about how they make stuff (the same as Chippies the world over) and we were allowed into the marketplace, which I think everyone liked, surprisingly. I guess it's because they had rude statues for my Mum and Brother, and amazingly detailed statues for my Dad and Nan. I purchased a couple of Buddhas ...

Leaving to Kuala Lumpur... Then Singapore?

... bus and paying about $1, we had dinner at a small Indian food restaurant that filled me up way more than I expected. Then, we headed down the street to the Blue Jazz Bar (or something like that... I'm terrible at remembering names of things... and of people). The atmosphere at the bar was electric on this Friday night. The courtyard looked out to the high rise office building, illuminated from the lights of the city and late-night atmosphere bustling around beneath. The place was ...

... sized, tasty sirloin steak with chips and veg for 1.20 Euro and Lydia had a fillet of red snapper for with chips and veg for 1.40 Euro, madness! Next morning we decided to go on a one day safari trip that Alex and Mandy recommended. The safari itself wasn't that special but the great thing about it was we got to hold some animals and get our photos taken with them. We both got pictures with a 9 month old lion cub and ...

I went to Gunung Kawi (temple), aboot 30 min drive and that was absolutely lovely, lots of beautiful rice terraces, an ancient temple carved on the side of rock, lots of local men. 31 hours in the Hard Rock Hotel Bali

... We drink beers, have a lovely liner (between lunch and dinner) seafood basket for Hubby, seafood spaghetti for me. Served in our cabana! I go to the megastore. And it is mega difficult not to buy stuff... . 2 badges (it is elementary, my dear Watson) and a little follieke: a luggage tag. I got the hotel at less than half of the price (through the HRC website and with my frequent flyer points) but it adds ...

... favor at the airport in Guatemala, the man tried to charge me $3.00! One of the girls working at my guesthouse lent me a sarong last night so I could attend the local temple's festivities, again for no charge, and today her sister taught me how to make an offering out of young coconut leaves. Many of the friendly men on the street have been trying to convince me to hire them as taxi drivers, it's true, but even after I declined they were more ...
