Today is our last full day in mainland China and we are going to Suzhou on the fast train. We met Andrew in the metro at an arranged station then proceeded to the high speed railway network. It is a massive centre with trains departing for all areas of China at very regular intervals. It was a little like being at an airport. ... still tucked up in bed We have done a fair bit since our last blog. Climbed the Great Wall thousands of steps! Bit stiff after but well worth it. ... Museum there was a 73 year old woman whose speciality was fish. She works six days a week, sewing single and double sided intricate designed wall hangings, pictures and fire screens. She splits one thread of silk into 24! It was almost impossible to see the resulting threads. She spends 2 years on one embroidery. Amazing and unique work which was for sale at varying prices up to 16000. We didn't buy one! ...

... involved walking past a pile of rubble on which the only whole things were a few toilet cisterns and old basins this was probably a good thing… The hostel turned out to be by a beautiful old canal, and after a minor false start in their cafe located actually on the waterfront we turned a corner and found ourselves being welcomed by 2 large dogs and the hostel staff who showed us to our room. The beauty of travelling as a four was that we had our room to ourselves – no snorers ...
