The Fullerton and Furlongs

We packed up EARLY this morning - 4 a.m. to be exact. Not because we are that efficient - but because that is what time we woke up! Today we moved to a new hotel! On our last trip here we were anxious to check out a new hotel that had received numerous awards and accolades, The Fullerton. Opened in 2001 - this building has a great history here in Singapore. Originally Fort Fullerton in 1820 it then became the General Post Office in 1928. Now it is a vision of beauty - both inside and out. We ...

Quiet revolution in TLA City

I've been here on business a number of times before so this was never going to be more than a 48 hour stopover for a new camera, toiletry supplies and catching up with friends. Despite this I've had a good stay, and it's been a bit of an eye opener as well, as times in SIN city may be a changing. Singapore has always been a very ordered and clinical place. Everywhere you look there is warning signage directing movements and behaviours, or people in smart uniforms doing the same. Multiple Thre...

Singapore Sling!

Morning all... Hope you are all well and having a good week. Here's what I've been up to... Last Thursday I bid farewell to Australia and flew to Singapore, where I met up with my friend Ross who was back home for the New Year. Ross met me from the airport and we went back to his penthouse apartment on the eastern side of the island, where I stayed with him and his friend Desmond. His apartment was like a temple and he casually threw in that a few years ago it was featured in Singapore's answ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Fullerton Singapore

Great hotel

from Margouille
We stayed at the Fullerton for the week end. Their rate was really reasonnable (229 Singapore dollars) and we ended up upgrading to a Palladian suite on the top floor (about 300 AUD). I would recommend checking the fullerton's website as their promotional rates were cheaper than the ones offered on hotelclub and the likes. The suite was fantastic with a huge terrace overlooking the harbour. Staff was very efficient and helpful. Breakfast by the Singapore river is a must. Will definitely return.

Definitely my favourite in Singapore

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed at the Fullerton in mid-March for three nights at a Quay room - and simply enjoyed our stay there! The hotel, not only the room but also the public area, is very elegant. From the clean and spacious room, we had a beautiful view of the quay, the bay and the tall buildings of the Marina area. We found the staff friendly, and the service professional.

The location is excellent as well - it is a quiet and relaxing area (not as hectic as, for example, Orchar Road), and yet it is not difficult to move around. Indeed we enjoyed the walk around the hotel, where there are many historical buildings and the quay/bay. The hotel stands just next to the Boat Quay - an ideal location for going out for some drinks or for filling your stomach.

Among 10 hotels I have so far stayed in Singapore (mostly 4-5 star hotels), this is by far the best!

Disappointing.

On first glance, The Fullerton looks great. Very grand, very white and very Peninsula like. However, the hotel itself was a bit disappointing. The rooms were comfortable enough and everything LOOKED good, but the service was terrible. The staff were lazy and unresponsive and even simple requests took forever. I will not be returning for a while.

Rather Plain but functional

Service is what you cld expect at any decent hotel. Stayed here often, and can easily notice the tiring of the rooms and the fittings therein. Make sure to get a room facing outwards away from the hotel as they have rooms that face inward directly onto the hotel lounge. Great location only if you're on business, not for holidaymakers - you're better off at some hotel along Orchard / Scott's for that.

Great hotel

Stayed here on a one-night stopover in late December and wished it could have been longer - would have liked to bask in the luxury a little more! Beautiful building, stylishly appointed rooms with an enormous bathroom, and an extremely convenient location for the museum, bars & restaurants along Clark Quay. Our room led out on to the pool, which was lit up but deserted in the evening. It is an infinity-type pool overlooking the river, and having it to oneself for a night swim was a very special experience. Very friendly staff. I particularly appreciated the whirlpool tub in the bathroom (and was disappointed later at the Shangri-La when this function was not provided!). Highly recommended.

Loved the Fullerton

The Fullerton was an excellent hotel in a great location, near all the restaurants and entertainment of Clarke and Boat Quays. We spent 5 days there and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our room overlooked the sea at the back and had a balcony so you could sit outside and watch the world go by. Having breakfast outside in the mornings was a real treat watching the activity on the river. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great hotel

Stayed in the fullerton for 6 night, great hotel. Swimmingpool a bit small, but a wonderfull location. Having breakfast on the Singapore riverside... Inside the hotel it's amazing as well, very nice high tea in the afternoon. A perfect hotel with a great staff!

Great hotel and location

from Charlty
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in October 2004 and really enjoyed our stay. The location is ideal - on the river and in walking distance of many sights and some great restaurants (I would recommend Indochine - a 5 minute walk on the opposite side of the river), the service was excellent and the rooms were comfortable and contained everything you'd expect from a top class hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly if you're just in town for a couple of days and would like a bit of luxury.

Loved the Fullerton

my partner and myself have just recently spent a week at the Fullerton. We can not give enough praise to the staff, they were just wonderful and the best service we have ever experienced in a 5 star hotel. Without even a hint that it was my partner's birthday a cake was sent up to our room, (how did they know?) the room service was exceptional. Our room was on a high level and had a magnificent view over the Singapore river and the merlion, strolling distance to a number of restaurants and marina. Without a doubt, we will be back again!

Nice but disappointed

from A TripAdvisor Member
We are an expat family from Sydney Australia who have lived in Singapore for 2.5 years. We stayed at this hotel recently for our wedding anniversary as I always thought it to be the best in Singapore. Even though it is beautiful, and in a beautiful location on the Singapore River, we were disappointed with the room they allocated us (which had a view from the window overlooking the lobby which is at the bottom of an atrium). The noise from below consisting of music and people talking etc filtered up into our room - it was just too noisy for us. I then asked front desk to allocate us a room with a view to the outside of the building and they could only offer us a very low floor. I reminded them that it was our anniversary (I had told reservations when I made the booking) and it would be nice to be allcated a room up high with a nice view, so they asked me if I wanted a different category and I told then that if they were willing to upgrade us on this special occasion then of course! But they were not willing as we found out, and we were given a low floor with a view of an office building across the street.....at least it was quieter.....Was disappointed that our anniversary was not even then recognised in any way - a bottle of champagne or fruit basket would have been a nice touch. I worked in the hotel industry in Australia for many years before my children came along and to me it is a no brainer to send up a bottle of champagne or chocolates or the sort when you know a couple celebrating a special event are in-house. So I suppose that is why I was disappointed. Also, after THEY asked me if I wanted a smoking or non-smoking room, I told them definitely a non smoking room - guess what type of room I got....?!

The size of the room was ok, just in a strange layout. The bathroom was large and all fittings are of a modern design ie: it had a rain shower as opposed to a standard shower - which is an oversized shower head that just drops water down on you like you are standing out in the rain!

The breakfast is fine, but the best part is the juice bar. You can order any type of fruit or vegetable juice that they freshly squeeze in front of you.

The location to our favourite restaurant in Singapore - Indochine Waterfront is a one minute walk from the hotel across the footbridge. It's also about a 10 minute walk to Boat Quay - a famous tourist area which is a strip of restaurants and bars along the waterfront.
