Today we woke up around 8 to catch a train to the beach in Fukui. I believe it's called sunset beach or something like that. It was one of the first small towns we've been to. Eihei-ji, Japan shantimanAt around 1 pm, in the year 2008, I entered the Japanese prefecture of Fukui which was the 47th prefecture that I have visited on journeys in Japan so now I have visited every prefecture of Japan. One of my life goals have been met. I wasn't planning to visit Fukui on January 2nd but an opportunity developed so I took it. I was returning from Tokyo and I was planning on meeting my old college friend, YN, in Osaka to catch up on each other ...
Fukui, Japan 1061kunI was a Rotary Exchange Student for a year in 1985 and during that time attended Hokuriku Senior High School in Fukui, Japan. Visiting this time with the boys I found that there were still a number of teachers who were there in 1985 and who remembered me! I also met up with Aoki Ryota, a student in my class at that time who is now an English teacher in the Hokuriku Junior High School.
Fukui, Japan jenny.bridge... but a few months later). Although the weather was muggy and humid, it was warm, and I love warm! Living 5 minutes from the beach I could easily cool down (that is until jellyfish season started in a couple of weeks). The rainfall was crazy, everyday it rained for at least an our or so. I heard that's just how mountain life is in general...who knows. But there were also some pretty cool shrines and festivals to keep me occupied- not to mention the gorgeous Mizushima beach ...
