Transferring on the subway was no fun as we had all of our luggage and had not quite learned to travel as lightly as the Japanese (or Europeans for that matter) do. We took the 35 minute ride on the Shinkensen Kodama to Odawara. Next we transferred to the 2 car electric Hakone Tozan line and rode for 80 minutes to Hakone where we checked in at the Fujiya Hotel. After Drop...

... about the "black eggs". Supposedly if you eat a black egg which had been cooked in the sulfur springs you will have 7 years added to your life span. So Jeremy and I said that sounded great. The eggs are put into little baskets and dropped into the sulfur springs to boil. Talk about stink - the springs were awful, and the eggs made it worse. Anyway, when they come out the shells are totally black ...
Hakone, Kanto, Japan ajnails... Fuji – any photo you have seen does not do it justice. It is amazingly huge.

The second ropeway went over a sulphide mine – they call it hell valley – and the rotten egg smell filled our noses. We bought a black egg, which is an egg cooked in the sulphide water which turns the egg black and gives it a slight smokey (dare we say "*****" smell). Although an acquired taste; local legend says that eating one will ...

Took about 5/6 hours but YAY! I used my hiking boots again (count so far: 3 times!) and it didn't feel too bad so I'm pretty glad, good chance to work off all the pocky!

Stayed in an epic Hotel Ohike which not ...

Mutsuura, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan swami_worldtravHakone wreszcie pozwoliło nam odpocząć od świątyń i uciec od betonowego Tokio. Jest to popularny górski kurort położony dość blisko stolicy. Kamakura, Kanto, Japan catasleep... book in advance, two inside one that you book and one that you can just use when it is available. We were ever so politely met when we arrived by Mariko. We go to the Moto-Hakone Guest House for Wednesday and back to ...
