... I’ve had strangers offer their seat, collect tissues for me once when Will got sick (admittedly not a fun experience), given us candies, snacks, fruit and once a US dollar bill (that was a bit strange). However, mostly they offer smiles and reassurances that we are in fact welcome here. So, I will continue to prefer public transportation even if it may be quicker to venture by car. And let’s be honest, the trains and buses are still way faster than traveling on the Old Tokaido ...

... views so nice. Eventually, we started heading down from a light (almost absent) tree cover to a more ancient looking forest with moss everywhere. We hiked past station 4 and ended up around station 3 before taking a bus back to the starting station in Kawaguchiko, right across from my hostel. We all said our goodbyes and I decided I wanted to try and get an awesome lake/Mt. Fuji sunset view before the sun retired for the day. I was advised ...

... girls go to the shrine to receive a blessing and then boys go again at age 5 and girls at age 7. They were rather cute! From there we went on to the Japanese art gallery which had magnificent views of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. Next step was the trip across the lake in a pirate ship - Jonny Depp could have been on board. From there it was back down to our accommodation. This is quite an experience. It's a large hotel and shoes are removed at the front door and put into lockers. Many ...
