This week we went to Lost City Water Park and on the weekend we went camping on Hailing Island. We rented two tents and slept on the beach after staying up late and cooking on the open fire.
Only nine days before we leave Mainland China for Hong Kong so we are in the 'get rid of everything' mode once again.

Next month we are going to Hawaii to meet up with my grandparents. We'll be on Oahu for six weeks. Then we’ll go back home for Christmas. I am very appreciative of my home, town and country now.
Macau, China schwate... crabs skittered at our feet, and I spent a good while trying to catch some of them. Where the small river met the sea, we started finding shells and interesting driftwood. That night we tried a different restaurant, eating more green lipped mussels (5 RMB per pound), a plate full of scampi (18 RMB per pound), two small crabs and more vegetable soup. We were the only customers ...
Tong gu Village/Hei Sha Wan, China bethverde... talk to Paul about Chelsea FC. The guard on the train actually took care of us and asked 2 guys opposite to look out for us - especially during the night, apparently. They turned out to be doctors on their way to an English exam, so guess what we did for the next few hours. We didn't mind though, it was fun. All this attention and English lessons did actually detract from the sitting bolt upright position so we only had to suffer until 5.30am. I think we tried ...
Guilin, China sainty... delicious street food we had never seen before - a spicy combination of yam, tofu and aubergine cut up and cooked together on a hotplate. A few steps further on we spent another Y2 on some rather disappointing bau - one big savoury one, one with egg custard and one with tau sa (sweet black bean paste). Although straight from the steamer, they were not hot enough, but the hot tea served ...
Kaiping, Guangdong, China raymondc... the town's only 5-star hotel. It is managed by the same people as the White Swan in Guangzhou, but not quite up to their standard. It is quite far from everything, but in an appealing location at the confluence of the two rivers. We found there was a dinner buffet for Y68 so decided to stay on this side of the river for a few hours, then come back at about 5:30 pm. We managed to find an Internet café with the help of a very pregnant young lady, who escorted us there. We ...
Kaiping, Guangdong, China raymondc... a great line in Portuguese cakes like pasteis de nata (custard tarts) and special biscuits. I know I always go on about food but its important right? We were hoping to be able to speak Portuguese because it is much better than our Cantonese, however, although the street signs are all in Portuguese, nobody speaks it. In fact, 2 per cent speak it, but the rest don't know a word so we got a few strange looks. There is beautiful ...
Macau, Macau leon1974... kind of a mango and coconot jelly. First bites are good but you get sick of it quite fast. Not for me. For the way down, we prefer to take the pathway. There are nice hiking trails on the island. The view is great. On the trail, you meet monks as there are Monasteries in the mountains. Monks are quite nice. From Tung Chung station, you can take a bus to the discovery beach. This ...
Hong Kong, China cat_dupuis... at 719, and Canada scored 23. Full results and video available on www.worldfirefightersgames2006.hk click on Bulletin Board. Toughest Fire video is last years Swedish winner. I have 2 months remaining. After renewing my completely full passport and arranging return visas, I am off to Macau, mainland China by ferry. A city 65 km West of Hong Kong across the mouth of the Pearl River. A mixture of Portuguese sailors and Las Vegas ...
