... errands done before I head to the farm. It was nice to be back and run into friends and walk through the market listening to the familiar musical yelling of the vendors. Hopefully, this will always feel like home. I will either leave tomorrow in the afternoon or Saturday morning. I am actually nervous now that my adventure is legitimately getting on its way. I was so prepared for it when I came, but this month in Xela has made me soft. Very gringo friendly here. Keep you posted!

San Pedro La Laguna, Western Highlands, Guatemala katywade... the dock we walked alongside the waterfront and found this great place, where we could enjoy a lemonade right by the water.

After having had lunch at Zoola's, I took a lancha back to Panajachel. We were right out on the middle of the lake, when it just started pouring down! And it kept raining from then on. If I return to Atitlan - which I might be doing in two weeks - I have to remember to bring my raincover.

The drive back to Antigua was quiet ...
Santa Cruz La Laguna, Western Highlands, Guatemala chrisser71Another week in Guatemala. I cant believe how the time is flying by. I took Spanish class this week as well as teaching and I cant believe how much better my Spanish is in one week. I think that every few weeks that I am here, I am going to either come back here to Xela for another week of class, or try and find some schools out in the country where I will be, which will probably be a little more difficult. Last weekend I went to ...

The smaller of the 2 yellow churches was a steep climb up from the village where we watched some kids playing and skinny dogs wondering about looking at us in a terrified kind of way.

Stopped at a little house of an old couple and ...
Totonicapán, Totonicapán, Guatemala gino53140Another fairly uneventful week in Xela. I have had trouble sleeping lately. Not because I am stressed out, I have not had a life that has been stress free...maybe ever? Aside from the whole bank card thing, everything else has been pretty smooth sailing. I think the probelem is I dont have enough to do. Going from working like a maniac and trying to prepare to leave the country to living in a place where I am working 15 hours a week ...

Quetzaltenango, Guatemala kimandjohnAfter looking around I decide to go with an apartment that belong to a school called Casa Xelaju (shay-la-who) it was I little more expensive but it had some things I call necessities (they don't) hot water, cable TV with 14 English channels, and internet something that I could not live with out here because it is my phone, and my TV ...
Quetzaltenango Guatemala, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala gino53140... kill me. Or so I decided at the time. As a result, I thought it would be best for my own sanity and safety to turn around while I still had the opportunity. The guide called into the office, and the office owner came to meet me at the lookout point to take me back to Xela. John and the guide opted to continue on the hike.

At this point, I´ll rely on John for an account of what happened next.

Shortly after I left, the trail continued to ...
Quetzaltenango, Guatemala kimandjohn... there too and we were joined by another British traveler to go play some pool for the rest of the evening. I really envy the British because I am not completely convinced that they are more clever than you or I, but they sure seem that way because of the accent.

Sunday I got up, had some breakfast at the hostel and waited around for a Peace Corp volunteer who had spent the weekend partying in Xela and was going back to Comitancello ...
