... and that was one we could sample first. We all pitched in 1000¥ ($11) and decided to have it after dinner. David was quizzing us what we felt like eating for dinner and after some discussion he took us to a very local place where an old lady cooks in a tiny restaurant out the front of her house. The food was so delicious. I ordered a katsudon which is like a pork schinitzel served on rice with some onion and a part cooked egg. So tasty. ...

We received the news that Gran had passed away peacefully on the 8th November. The family was by his side day and night after having a large Left MCA territory stroke a week before and it was lovely they were there through his last days. As the rain came down we headed to the staton to catch the "Romantic Train" which meandered through the lush ...

... and locked. It was grand having the sea breeze stroking me while I slept. But as soon as the sun came creeping over those tree tops I had to get moving. No way I could even breath in the tent. So hot. Already at 7.30am. I chucked one last cherry tomato in my gob and downed the coffee. My feet were ready for some action. And they were about to get it. Hard! I was on roll. The islands were small. One bridge, two bridge. Coffee break at a Michi no Eki - these road stations ...

We have rented bikes straight from the hotel, took a ferry across and started our cycling day around 10 am. We have met a nice Japanese tourist from Osaka on the ferry and decided to cycle together.
The Shimanami Kaido-sea road links the main islands through series of bridges and small islands. At he beginning we wanted to do the whole 70km cycle route in a day with a ferry back but after a while we have taken more leisure approach and were enjoying the views across ...
