... ride away from Onomichi and something I was really keen to see. The island had been abandoned after the Hiroshima bombing and legend has it that the rabbits there as pets escaped and bred...like rabbits! We found our way to the ferry and there you could buy rabbit food so I got a bag. As soon as we got off the ferry and onto the island you could see the rabbits. All colours and sizes....so cute! What we weren't expecting so much was how beautiful the ...

Day 13 - rest day and some blogging

A travel blog entry by globalshepherds on Apr 30, 2015

On this day we both took our time waking up. There was no free breakfast to rush off to, no wind to surf in and rain in the forecast. We took our time. By the time we actually did get moving it was clear that my feet are still sore. Actually its just my 2 little toes which each have nice blisters and are definitely in need of some rest. It occurs to me that some flip flops would do the trick and allow my toes to heal up over the next day or so. ...

Day 12 - travel to Onomichi - Hiroshima area

Nothing to see here, at least that we bothered to take photos of on this day.

... and head into the bath. Millie was pathetic and wrapped her towel around herself whenever possible (since found out that is not okay!) and neither of us could read the kanji for shampoo and body wash, so we both used a squirt of each just in case! After this surreal, but in hindsight very cool, experience we pottered around the island - so weird! Hardly any people, beautiful scenery. Then back for dinner - the restaurant was a two minute walk from ...

Day 20: (Fukuyama) Ikuchi-jima

WE DID: - caught the train from Okayama to Fukuyama and dumped our bags at the hotel, a 5 min walk from the station - caught a train to Onomichi, wandered along the dock and caught the ferry (after deciphering the kanji) to Ikuchi-jima - a kind man led us to the bike hire and we hired some electric bikes and cycled part way round the island, before stopping off at a restaurant on the beach for lunch - Kosanji : our favourite temple so ...
