... for about $6.00 a bottle. The highlight of the south coast is 'The Great Ocean Road', touted as one of the most beautiful drives in the world. It certainly has stunning scenery most notable the rock towers out in the ocean, one set called The Twelve Apostles. It also has the great coastal walk that parallels the road. At one campsite there were three different school groups doing the six day hike. For those of you like myself who lament the loss of the ...
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia samndoug... lilies in a vase. We felt very welcome! The house was built in the early 1900s and is suitably decorated in lots of big heavy Victorian furniture as well as lots of "stuff" around, photos everywhere, ribbons. scarves, hats, antique vases and dishes and heavy red velvet curtains. It smells of mothballs or something, reminding me of old houses in England. The pictures hang from picture rails, the hall light is Depression kind of glass in a cranberry colour. It is all a little ...
Adelaide, Australia acctaste... The city council in Adelaide is keen to get people cycling so there's a place opposite the bus station where you can hire bikes for free, which we did that the following morning. Spent most of the day touring around the city by bike (bike lanes disappear like in Dublin so it can get a little dangerous on main roads). That evening we returned the bikes and crossed to the road where we boarded for a 20 hour bus journey to Alice Springs.
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia dacraic... to the City on the way back we stopped at a tourist village called Harndorf, a township with a german theme. We only drove through because it was 6.45pm at night. It had lots of interesting unique shops, like Morpeth back home, great eateries and hotels and beautiful tree lined streets. It was a lovely atmosphere. If I was with my mother I could see us coming back to visit the shops and village for the day, but with a ...
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia p18130So the plan for Christmas day is to have a BBQ on the beach. We will need to get some meat and of course, if the Ozzies have bought them all, the traditional prawns. The radio is full of adverts now about where to get your prawns! We will be staying at the Shores Caravan Park right by the beach in Adelaide. http://adelaide-shores-caravan-resort.s a.big4.com.au/ Just the two of us, a real change for the Rhodesies ...
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia therhodesies... the Migration Museum for an insight into the histories of some people who know call Australia home. Interesting to read of one of the tests the authorities used to decide if someone could enter Australia to live. As a white christian I would have had no trouble getting in, but if I were say Indian I would have been given a language skills test in something like Lithuanian and if I failed then I would be sent packing ...
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia dingleq... in the USA, the Carribean and Mexico all tend to get those deluges, and the air is then moist when the sun comes back out. Kinda makes sense and I'm sure loads of you already know that but I thought it was worthwhile passing on! Spent some time having a look round the shops - I've astounded Ivan by not going into any shoe shops (and myself too if I'm honest) but there's the whole issue of baggage allowance - we really don't have the room to make too many purchases. In fact ...
Glenelg, Australia sharonf72... he's ****ed," and the dog sniffed me quickly and moved on. Well Karma strikes again. After the half retarded helper stamped my passport, I walked out and was stopped by a tall, thin girl who asked for my passport. I chatted with her about my plans and after reviewing my documents said thank you and I moved on. When my bag came around, I sighed with relief. I headed to the nothing to declare line and went through only to be ...
Glenelg, Australia hbomb1... with three semi naked slobs from the UK. Through the open window, we can all hear the music drifting across the city from the ' Big Day Out ' - Australia's yearly live music festival that happens in all the big cities simultaneously. We know it's fantastically expensive to get a ticket. We don't even try. I've made a decision not to visit Melbourne which would be the next logical step in my journey East. I've had a belly-full of Australian big city life. Quite literally ...
Glenelg, South Australia, Australia gerry_goosehartContinued from ; Glen Elg Glen Elg has a very attractive jetty area with a tram service that shuttles passengers back and forth between here, the beach end, and central downtown Adelaide. The trams themselves date back to 1929 and are delightful to ride. The seat backs attached to the wooden benches can pivot fore and aft depending on the direction of travel so that passengers always face forwards. The only other place I've seen this is on the ferry from Georgetown to Penang in ...
