Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu Province and a massive city
that sprawls a great distance along the Yellow River between hills on both

Woke up early at the half way guest house. Have to brave the smelly toilets and clean my teeth in the outside hand basins. View from our room is spectacular. ... So yes no altitude to speak of, and no majestic peaks. But there were similarities to a point. Staying in this village was a welcome relief from the cities we'd been in and quite possibly my favourite part of the trip.
