... he was the Fonz! The 60s room was very hippie. Black lights, glow paint and a VW van. The last room was made to look like a drive in movie theater and showed a documentary on Route 66. Apparently you can't drive the entire road anymore because some of it has been over grown by fields. We got back in the car and headed into Texas. No sooner had we entered than we found another interesting ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States funkinthetrunk... seeing was infamous "Cadillac Ranch". Too cool. A local told us this guy also has a pool table you can only see from the sky, but complete with sticks and balls. oookay... Tucumcari, NM hasn't changed much in a lot of years, other than a truck stop on I-40. Many businesses still closed for season. A very good look at how things were, once upon a road.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States 7x70on66... beans and corn were the home-spun meal Jose Luis was looking for, while the Chicken fajitas hit the spot for me. Interesting that this was another dry town, no wine, beer, just ice tea or sodas. We will be heading through Arizona tomorrow with our last stop before we arrive in Las Vegas
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States pawelek... We read about this just two days ago in Fort Sill and the ranchers in recognition of this chiefs services, built him a large 2 storied house as a way of showing appreciation. This, in itself, created a challenge for him, because he was accused of being "bought" by "the white man", yet he was simply quick to recognise the "Old ways" had passed. His tribe did well out of the arrangement by way of the rent/royalties received as an ongoing income. After our relaxed cuppa, the ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States popusa2008We had planned on leaving Roswell early and picking up Ti in Albuquerque this morning, but just as we were packing up we received a call from Ti that he had missed his flight. This news interfered with my carefully laid out itinerary, but it actually improved our day. Instead of rushing to Albuquerque, we were able to take our time and watch Venus beat Serena at Wimbledon. Instead of spending half the day driving west to ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States sarahl56Now we officially started our Route 66 self-guided tour. We began from Tucumcari, NM with the hopes of checking out their dinosaur museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed due to it being a Monday as well as a holiday. The rest of the city was not impressive so we decided to move on back to TX via the historic Route 66.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States fishy979... still be on. We'll have to settle on seeing it in the daylight. So we are parked for the night. Don't know the plan for tomorrow yet. Sounds like Adrian, TX for lunch and Shamrock,TX for dinner. Other than that, we still have to plan it so I'll let you know.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States ramblinraasch... preparing mentally and physically for another day of driving. Google says it is 5 1/2 hours drive to OKC, plus I lose 2 hours changing time zones. I haven't had to eat out too much as I brought food with me and have been munching on it since I left. I will get on the road now before it gets too hot.

I am off to Oklahoma City tomorrow to see a wonderful friend I met in 1974. Yeah Diane. Then off to Ft. Worth area to meet with my cousin and see my niece for the first time. Then Tennessee and hopefully Boone.

This was an opportunity for all of the folks to remember old times. Lunch was New Mexican. We will have another banquet tonight for a big finish and on to our return trip. Will attempt to see Aunt Dorothy on the way thru Amarillo.
