Grand Teton National Park / Wyoming

Where am I?

Randi woke up at 4AM at the rest area and started driving. I slept. We shared driving and resting as we crossed Nebraska and Wyoming. Our only stops were rest areas. We could not take any more rest areas, so a Best Western in the middle of nowhere ...

... west boom town. The coal and oil industry's are really expanding. New buildings going up everywhere. Everyone here drives a 4 wheel drive pick up - and I mean everyone. Driving a Chevy Impala made me just a little afraid. I added some of the better photos from my days in Chicago. Tomorrow we land in Eagle, ID.

... Wyoming with huge equipment digging ore and loading trucks to be taken to some other place for processing. Considering the part of Wyoming through which I traveled today, the mined material is probably TRONA which is the naturally occuring form of sodium carbonate. But, it could also be coal as Wyoming is the largest producer of coal in the US. And it's possible that it could be uranium. In any case, this state is a big producer of coal, oil, natural gas and coal bed methane ...

... to see the Abe Lincoln statute, but it was so cold and windy that I was the only one there. You might ask, why is Abe Lincoln standing over I-80. The answer is that I-80 tracks most of the route of the much older US Route 30. Route 30 is better known as the Lincoln Highway and is the first road to cross the entire U.S. Thus, you will find many Linclon Highway references ...

Touring Teton

... see it but no luck. Added moose and a distant eagle to list of wildlife we saw. Day ended up being a lot longer than we planned. We were going to stay in Jackson and go back into Teton to take some morning pictures the next day but the hotels seemed too expensive so we headed on south to Rock Springs which was about 4 hours away. When we got there at ...

Nevada - Utah - Wyoming

Today we got from Nevada, through Utah, to Wyoming. The view is changing dramatically, from dry and sandy to green and lively, from flat to rocky, from empty fields to busy towns. It's funny that we've gone through three states, but there were only few towns on the way of Interstate Highway 80. The ...

Day 23 - Nothing Better Than Actual Proof

... as is my nature), not knowing how exactly one finds their way through hardships such as these, especially back to back. Some of them felt as if I was going vertically into the water. Definitely not an amusement park ride. The trip lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I was all wet and cold afterwards so the heated van trip on the ride back was amazing. I got a chance to see the pictures that the photographer takes of you on the ride (that part is like an amusement park ...
