... though Missoula was uneventful until we crossed the ridge line and took a first glimpse of the soaring range that starts the Glacier National Park. Just beyond those peaks (pics below) is a valley that contains the largest natural freshwater lake in the western part of the United States. It is huge; with a surface area of 496 km2. It is 43.9 km long and 24.9 km wide. Its maximum depth is 370.7 ft (113.0 m).
