... and I’m starting to see a lot clearer. Most people that come to China to study Chinese are also seeking to understand the real China, but as a foreigner here I’m finding that to be a near impossible feat. Although China has opened up to the world beyond their borders, the Chinese people are still quite xenophobic in their views towards “outsiders” in China. If you’re in China, and not Chinese, you might as well be ET.

... market close to the train station. The market was quite nice with a lot of goods I couldn't find in parts of Tianjin, however the prices were high and none of the 'western' things were really Western at all. Regardless I bought some gifts and some leather mittens. Afterward we had jiaozi at a nearby chain restaurant, and a little skiff with the waitress when she brought and charged us for a dish we didn't order.
After, we took a ...
A couple of months have past since our last little adventure and the throes of a day to day job have enthralled me for the moments. I do feel, however, the often little tug to wander streets I haven't walked and to places I have not yet gazed. And so, for this weekend, the two of us decided to go to the close coastal city of Tanggu to see there what it had to offer. Of ...
Tianjin, Tianjin, China baphometdemon... at my elite chinois skills yo?). All kinds of ZhongShanMen ensues. Don't think I'll settle for the road. Naw, the bridge doesn't look like fun. No more ZhongShanMen. Half hour's almost up. But lo and behold, here's Anr (two) thingy that looks like a pagoda? GM indicated is would just be a short but confusing walk from here, rock it! But the bus don't stop. O the humanity. How will I reconstruct those confusing directions? Well ...

The next morning we walked through an open air market by her apartment in search of a small park I had found on my handy-dandy pinyin map of Tianjin (to no avail), and then we had lunch at a duck-head place. Duck head was served to us en masse, on a big plate, covered in peppers, and cut down the middle (maybe 12 in all). Truly it was delicious, I love spicy things, but the ...
October 1 I had the day off for the Celebration of Chinese National Day. It was the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China. I used this time to explore more of Tianjin. I did a lot of walking and sweating but it was worth it. Enjoy the Photos.

For this trip I traveled to Chengde county to stay with my gal's parents and see the mountain's of China.
Wednesday night after work I took the bus out to Tianjin city and we went out to dinner and packed for the trip.
See all our Tianjin photos and adventures here. Our Olympics stuff, with photos and videos, is here.
... gentleman in front of the hotel by the footpath doing his business. It is easy in those split pants to just squat down and Pronto he was leaving his suggestions to the hotel what should be improved in the future. Basically he was ******** in the front of the hotel in the middle of the city, while his mother was watching from a distance if he is finished or not. Outrageous but extreamly funny! After this incident I have decided to have a haircut, my hair started to fall out because ...
