In the centre of the square, there was an equestrian statue of Skanderberg, Albania's national hero. Prior to 1991, there was a 10m high bronze statue of Enver Hoxha, the former communist dictator of Albania. However, when communism fell in the early 90's, the statue was pulled down by an angry mob!

    Nice small hotel in the heart of it

    Great big room and bathroom. Little balcony overlooking the street. Simple breakfast brought to your door (wow, i don't even have to look presentable for this!) as their breakfast room was being renovated.
    Great for a budget traveller. i wish all my hotel rooms were like that!
