Friday on the Beach Byron Bay

... guides took us out again to surf the waves with the kayaks - I am becoming a real mermaid it seems.
Also met Henrike again, the girl I met on Fraser Island and then again in Noosa, and who I will meet again in Sydney as we somehow have the same route. It is funny how one always meets people again and again as they either travel up north or down south on the same routes.

... and I'm living life like it's supposed to be. Finally. Eventually, I'll have to come back, cause real life will call at some point, and I only hope that when I get back to Canada, this feeling will stay, the hole will stay filled. Cause if it doesn't I'll be gone back here quicker than anything!

Anyhow, that is all for now. Lots of beach time in the plans for the next few days, mostly because my budget is being way over blown right now!

Hell again, We are now in Byron Bay which is a small hippie town. We are staying at a real hippie place where you can sleep in a tepee tent if you want. We are staying a a shared dorm which is a bit like a garage! On our first day we did a 5 mile walk to a light house which was ...

... Me, Ruthie and Julia went for a swim and it was nice. The sea was warmer then the air temp! Unfortunatly while we were in the sea it decided to start raining. We stayed in the sea as it was warmer then getting out but my stuff got quite soggy. Once we got out it was quite rubbish! I decided to invest in a mac. The minute I did it stopped raining!! Typical! We went back to the hostel and chilled out for a bit and then went for dinner. At dinner we decided we'd go to Cheeky Monkeys ...

... a car came so I had to put them on again! the people left so I took them opff again - and found a leech on my other leg!! much panic ensued with Jack trying to hold a match to my leg to try and get it off - a lighter or salt is best for leeches but we had neither - and only succeeded in making my leg hot! They're meant to drop off with heat but it just loosened its grip one end and held on with the other - so I had to pull it off in the end ...

After spending about two months in Sydney trying to find work but to no avail, I decided I would hit the road and head up towards Brisbane. This was probably the most nerve wracking part of my trip so far. It's always difficult to leave your comfort zone & I was worried about leaving my friends in Sydney and heading off on my own with no real plan, but I knew in my mind it was definitely the right time to leave. I had bought a hop on/off bus pass up to Cairns and after ...

... find that it was actually very nice and relaxed. We got the next shuttle bus back into town, keen to see the beach. It is absolutely beautiful, even with all the people that were there. The sea is clear, clean and has waves that are perfect for body boarding but still calm enough to float about and relax. We spent the rest of the day there then went to the supermarket on the way home. We decided to treat ourselves to a bottle of Australian wine ...

... and still have a holiday! 20 days in a campervan though? Hmmm. Oh yeah, remember the time we said that we'd never hire one of those Wicked Campers because they look so damn rough and grotty? Well, they're cheaper than anyone else by a couple of hundred bucks so we're having one. I just hope it's not too embarassing, some campsites won't allow them because of the offensive graffiti on them. Oh well, you won't lose it in a crowded car park!

... dull today, due to all the rain clouds hovering overhead. The rain wasn't the only thing hovering overhead...



We walked all the way down to the best beaches in the centre of town, which was a fair old trek.



Once in town we bought some grub for dinner, bemoaned the lack of bohemian shops/cafes, and then walked back up the beach again.
