Travel Blogs from Stockholm
We were a little off our plans with yesterday's very slow train ride but one of the things I didn't want to miss was seeing the museums of Stockholm's Djurgarden Island. On it are three very interesting attractions: Skansen an outdoor folk museum that was like walking through Swedish history; the Nordic Museum with many interesting takes on the …
First let me say that we were greeted this morning with the news of the tragedy in Norway and we were shocked to hear of the level of violence in this peaceful part of the world. Most police in Norway don't even carry guns...it's especially difficult to conceive of children being murdered. We are sorry. We will be in Norway later in the trip but as …
... Stockholm shopping district.
We went for a tour of the Royal Palace and were amazed at the size and how it had been preserved in its original state. We also went for a guided tour of the treasury and were very interested to hear and learn the history of the Swedish Royal family, through their crowns, swords & sceptres.
We had our only day of rain so far. It was interesting to see how quickly all of the tourists scattered. We ...
... Old Town about 2 1/2 miles along a pedestrian walkway with shops, restaurants, street vendors, etc. At the Hard Rock, we found it to be a small restaurant and the "shop" was a small counter with 2 racks of clothes in the corner. It also didn't have any Stockholm sign inside or outside (it also doesn't participate in the Rewards program). So Jean chose to have her picture taken next to the ABBA memorabilia. We had the usual spring rolls, and the I had the rib ...
A wonderful surprise phone call this morning....Willy and Gunilla were visiting Stockholm and wanted to meet for lunch! So as always we put on our walking shoes and headed to Hötorget to meet them.
It was a sunny warm day, perfect for a walk along Strandvägen and lunch at Happy! Their grandson Simon joined us. After lunch we struck out again walking randomly through the city. As we approached Kungsträdgäden we found ourselves ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Freys Hotel Stockholm
I have been staying at the Frey's hotel since 1998; I've lost count of the amount of times. I've seen the hotel go through three decoration changes and right now it is looking fabulous!
Good location and pretty comfortable
I like the decoration around the reception counter, it's pretty warm and comfortable. The receptionists are friendly and treat guests with enthusiam. The continental breakfast is the best one that I've tried. The location is super good cause it's the opposite of Arlanda Express station and near the shopping area and scenery. Regarding the price comparing the average standard in Stockholm, I'm satisfied with Freys and will recommend my friends to stay in.
Our last night in Stockholm we stayed at the Frey Hotel. We chose it because it is very close to the express train to the Arlanda AIrport. It's decent but not great. The staff was nice.
Looking for a hotel?
We had a great time and highly reccomend it. Frey's has a great location, staff was helpful, and it was very clean and quiet. You can't go wrong!
Very, Very Happy with my Stay
This was my fourth trip to Stockholm and my first time staying at this hotel. I would definately stay at Freys again. The location is excellent: In the heart of the city, a short walk from Central Station where you can get the bus to the airport. The room was decent sized and the bed comfortable. They show a concern for aesthetics that you don't usually find in a hotel in this catagory. This a relatively inexpensive hotel but it has lots of style. The buffet breakfasts were pretty good too.
Great location, good value
Just a few blocks from the the airport bus terminal and even closer to the subway. We got somewhat confused when we first arrived on the airport bus, since you need to take a stairway down to Vasagatan to get to the hotel.
The standard rooms are small, and the bathroom is tiny, but usable. The shower shares the floor with the rest of the bathroom, so you get the entire floor wet when you shower. They thoughfully give you a squeegee to clean up afterwards. The advantage of this setup is that when you open the shower curtain, the shower becomes part of the bathroom, making it feel larger.
The beds were excellent and the free breakfast buffet was quite extensive.
My wife and I stayed at this hotel over the New Year perion (2005). As this was our first trip tp Stockholm we booked the hotel through the official city tourist board and we got a standard room for less than £100 p.n.
Good place to stay
Convenient location - right accross from Central Station. I had one of the "deluxe rooms" which was big by European standards. Nicely furnished - felf like being in an IKEA store. Good buffet breakfast included.
