Historical Traveler Reviews Freys Hotel Stockholm
I have been staying at the Frey's hotel since 1998; I've lost count of the amount of times. I've seen the hotel go through three decoration changes and right now it is looking fabulous!
All the staff are so warm and friendly and the food served for the included breakfast is full of choice and always fresh!
The Frey's is in an excellent location for Stockholm just a couple of minutes walk direct across the road from the Stockholm Arlanda train station or alternately it's just a 5-10 minute walk from the bus / train central terminal.
A quick walk from the left of the hotel will take you to the shopping area of Stockholm where you will feel to be made so welcome.
The rooms of the hotel are warm and cosy with a traditional Swedish modern feel to them.
You can't go wrong staying here which is the reason I go back time and time again and I recommend it to all my friends!
Good location and pretty comfortable
I like the decoration around the reception counter, it's pretty warm and comfortable. The receptionists are friendly and treat guests with enthusiam. The continental breakfast is the best one that I've tried. The location is super good cause it's the opposite of Arlanda Express station and near the shopping area and scenery. Regarding the price comparing the average standard in Stockholm, I'm satisfied with Freys and will recommend my friends to stay in.
Not Crazy About it.
Our last night in Stockholm we stayed at the Frey Hotel. We chose it because it is very close to the express train to the Arlanda AIrport. It's decent but not great. The staff was nice.
The first thing we noticed was a strange odor throughout the building. Really weird configurations to get to our room... go up this elevator, down this hallway, up these stairs to a room that was fine. Nothing special. They had just remodeld their restaurant. Very nice looking, food was not good and I do not recommend it at all. I ordered soup and a salad and the greens were wiltered and the soup was cold. I had them reheat it and it took over fifteen minutes to return. Maybe it was just an off night for them, but it was a poor experience for us especailly after coming off really nice hotels and Restaurants. Fortunately we were only there for one night and up and out by 7:00 AM. The train station is close by. Thorughout our visit to Sweden we had grown to expect much more than Frey Hotel offered.

We had a great time and highly reccomend it. Frey's has a great location, staff was helpful, and it was very clean and quiet. You can't go wrong!
Very, Very Happy with my Stay
This was my fourth trip to Stockholm and my first time staying at this hotel. I would definately stay at Freys again. The location is excellent: In the heart of the city, a short walk from Central Station where you can get the bus to the airport. The room was decent sized and the bed comfortable. They show a concern for aesthetics that you don't usually find in a hotel in this catagory. This a relatively inexpensive hotel but it has lots of style. The buffet breakfasts were pretty good too.
Great location, good value
Just a few blocks from the the airport bus terminal and even closer to the subway. We got somewhat confused when we first arrived on the airport bus, since you need to take a stairway down to Vasagatan to get to the hotel.
The standard rooms are small, and the bathroom is tiny, but usable. The shower shares the floor with the rest of the bathroom, so you get the entire floor wet when you shower. They thoughfully give you a squeegee to clean up afterwards. The advantage of this setup is that when you open the shower curtain, the shower becomes part of the bathroom, making it feel larger.
The beds were excellent and the free breakfast buffet was quite extensive.
Well located, very clean and weel run hotel l
My wife and I stayed at this hotel over the New Year perion (2005). As this was our first trip tp Stockholm we booked the hotel through the official city tourist board and we got a standard room for less than £100 p.n.
Although small, the room was well equipped and very clean and functional. Perfect for a short break.
The staff were very efficient and helpful. Minor problem with room (light bulb needed replacing and additional clothes hangers were required) were attended to immediately.
The hotel is in a quiet location close to the main shopping and commercial district and within walking distance of the main rail, bus and aiport shuttle bus terminals. A big plus if you are visiting a new city for the first time!!
The buffet breakfast that is served in the adjacent bar/restaurant that is attached to the hotel was both plentiful and of a very good quality.
All in all the Freys Hotel left a favourable impression on me and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good base for a short break in Stockholm.
Good place to stay
Convenient location - right accross from Central Station. I had one of the "deluxe rooms" which was big by European standards. Nicely furnished - felf like being in an IKEA store. Good buffet breakfast included.

... and while the hostel doesn't have that many guests right now, a lot of them are just chilling in the hostel since it's so cold outside. People come to me wanting booze and mixers and stuff, and I tell them to go to 7-11 TWO blocks down, and they are like, ehh... nahhh. Haha, one of the things I learned in Chicago-- if you start using the weather as an excuse, you will never get anything done!
... We've been so happy in Stockholm but of course we'll be happy to visit our "other" home. I think a few really warm days and a swim in the Mediterranean are long overdue. My sister Barbara and her husband Tom will visit us in mid-September! We're excited to see them. They have been to Spain before but never to El Campello! After that who knows? We have talked about returning to Sweden in October for awhile and perhaps also spending ...

... I head to Vasamuseet. After it's maiden voyage of 1300 m in calm weather, the royal warship Vasa capsized in Stockholm's harbor in 1628. It was supposed to be the pride of the Navy. Not until 1956 that a researcher rediscovered it and restoration efforts began. It's the largest boat ever restored & was spectacular! So happy I chose Vasa over Abba. ;) On the way to the ferry, I stop to call the girls. In our last call, I mentioned I'd call them today. I don't have ...

In a couple of weeks I will return to Zihuatanejo, where I first went last autumn and felt like I had "come home" after a long time being lost in a blizzard wearing only shorts and a tank-top all alone in a forest full of blood-thirsty zombies.
But first back to Stockholm to re-pack my bags with paints and brushes, the inspiration awaits me in Zihua. (I bloody damn well hope).
