    Saying Goodbye to New Friends

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 28, 2015

... Bob got through all of his, but I got a "doggy bag", and finished mine for afternoon tea. Delicious! It was then time for sad goodbyes to our new friends, David and Jenny, Linda and Ian, Yvonne and Renata, Jean and Guy, Lynne and Jo, and of course Patrick and Maree and Anja. Jim and Ann, like us were staying in Feldkirch tonight, and both Patrick and Anja took us back to Hotel Barens, so we got to say a ...

    Last Hike

... hotel - not a long hike but very pleasant. With rain just starting to fall when we got back, we decided not to go to the high ropes course that was on offer for the afternoon (it got rained out anyway). It was a 1 megawatt unit that used wood chips made of waste timber in the valley at a cost of 30 euros ...

Dinner was up to the standard we had come to expect, and after a short group meeting it was time to retire for the ...

Hello Everyone. Today we packed up from our gorgeous apartment in Milan to drive into Switzerland and then Austria. It was an amazing drive through the Swiss alps with huge mountains and green grassy valleys. There were gorges so deep with amazing rivers and streams rushing below. Waterfalls came down the mountainsides at every bend in the winding road. The houses were quaint little chalets all with window boxes full of gorgeous colourful flowers. ...

(Although this blog entry is decidedly late, I urge you to submit yourselves to the convenient fiction that it is written while having just arrived at Appenzell, after we spent 2 days of driving though the Alps.) The long-established unity of Switzerland is an amazing accomplishment, particularly in the face of its geography. Using today's technology, getting from place to place over the massive ...
