... which has tallest spier in England. It also houses the Worlds oldest working clock. In addition it has one of four of the original Magna Carta which was in incredible condition. This year is the 800th anniversary of the writing of the Magna Carta so there is a lot of celebrations and we even got to see a children's choir practicing for a performance. We then journeyed into the English countryside which is just amazing although the small narrow streets are hard ...

Had a late breakfast as it was to be a shorter day. We waited until the rain had stopped before setting out at 9.30. The track leading away from Bere Regis was an omen of what was to come, as it was a mass of tall grass, just great to give our socks a good soaking ! It became easier for a while on a farm track and was good as it headed northwards along a lovely wooded lane and through a tunnel of trees. It all changed when we crossed the main A354 and pushed our way through a ...

Also lots of birds and wild flowers The tracks were good, mostly bridle paths through farms and army land , crossing water meadows and through Moreton Plantation. The lanes were very quiet and one we walked on was closed to traffic due to bridge works. We climbed through the fence round the road works, but after ...

A whole day without going off track ! Just as well as it was a long way to Crossways. The walking was easier on the Dorset Downs, passing ***********ument and also lots of tumult on the hillsides. Later on we went through farmland and woods, nearly being killed by the lady golfers in their sports cars racing out of the golf club ! Later on we skirted Warmwell Quarry, a huge area of gravel pits and lakes, crossing fields and hurdling ...

... boots filled up with water! We stopped later in a barn and squeezed out our socks, but it was still rather soggy and steamy.! We came down to Winterbourne Abbas on a bridle track through downland sheep country. It was only 2 o'clock, but as it was raining again, we knocked at the guest house door. Fortunately the owner was home and we were allowed inside to our rooms. After showering and washing the soggy socks ...
