Stopped and got my police permit, hiked 500m of the Shakadang trail that was open, Jhuilu Old trail, Swallow Grotto, then to the Waterfall curtain/Baiyang Waterfall trail... returning with stops at the status and temple at Tienhsiang plateau, pavillion at Cimu Bridge, Yeli pavillion, and Eternal Springs shrine.

Rest day and organizing my vietnam vist and my next move... was thinking Sheipa national park to climb Pintian, but the hostel there is full for the taiwan birthday national holiday and a taiwanese guy said the climb is not so special, so will skip it and head back to Taipei. Asked the hostel girl where I could find a buffet, and there was one about 15min away, so ate there two times for a 80NT buffet of 3 vegetables plus rice and a pork chop.

Scooter tour for River tracing and country riding

rented a scooter for $500, will get it for $300 as a second day for Taroko.

Today took it over the Sapadong to do a river trace for a couple of hours!

Then rode south to Liyu Lake, the old historic village of Lintianshan, then over to ride the quiet 193 Country road back to Hualien to complete the loop... probably my favorite road yet.

... to go back home after about 1.5 hours for a cold shower, and change out of all of my clothes soaked with sweat (more soaked than usual). We also caught a tourist shuttle bus along the east Rift Valley , stopping at a lovely lake (Liyu Lake) for a walk around it. It is nice just to see the countryside. We noticed lots of cycle ways along this east Rift Valley road. So, Leonie could well organise her next cycling trip to Taiwan, it is very cycle ...
