We travelled across miles and miles of beautiful coastline, neighbouring the mountains, all barely touched by man (just basically made safe to walk around), in all its natural beauty. Our first stop was Xiao Yeliou (Small Yeliou). This coastal nature preservation area is adjacent to eroded limestone rocks... ... recycling and the environment. Driving through the mountains and bush reminded me of NZ at times, except that there were so many tropical plants. We had a thunderstorm most afternoons, but they were over within 20 mins or so, so no real problem.

I totally recommend a visit, and would love to go back again myself, as I've only seen a very small part of the country.

Unfortunately, after hiking down a ton of steps, I was greeted with a gate saying do not enter (people had died there previous from a rock fall and I guess it still was not open again). Too bad. ... teaching programs were concluded after Dong He and Jia Li, I was welcomed to stay with a fellow family on the program for an extra week. They had immigrated to the U.S, and had raised their children in New Jersey. However, every year they return to visit family in the capital Taibei and the metropolis of Tainan.

... unexpected. We then decided the best way to go sightseeing to Taroko Gorge was to hire a taxi for the day. We ultimately saw more sights, did far more walking and was able to go at our own pace.
