Shopping, beer, shopping, beer and more shopping

... products to fill up our box, this was our last day. We shopped and shopped and shopped and with ten minutes to spare before the shipping company closed, we had our box on the scale....19.45 kg's...whew....and it was off...thank goodness! Now hopefully it will actually make it home sometime within the next 3 months. That night was spent back at 7-11 for some more Chang and Shinga for our last night with our new friends.

On to Sukhothai.....

Bangkok Day 2: Temple Touring and Tuk Tuk Riding

... stopped across the street at Au Bon Pain for a light bite and a drink.

We walked back toward the Wat Pho and after haggling with a tuk tuk driver for a few minutes we agreed on the fare to Siam Square, expecting to do some souvenir shopping. The ride itself was an adventure, with our driver navigating traffic, using back roads and side streets, and zipping by block after block of shops for everything from vehicle repairs to food to Buddhas and spirit ...

Nepal to Thailand

My impressions of Thailand so far, or rather of Chiang Mai? It's clean. Really, clean. I quite like it. I also love the 30+ weather, the palm trees ...

Hot Hot Heat

... But of course I wouldn't let something like the heat prevent me from seeing anything in one of the greatest cities in the world... I just had to chalk a few things off my list until I would return in November (like fossilized dinosaur poo, or a museum of forensic medicine.. complete with a shirt worn by man murdered with a dildo).

Anyway, the first day the quirkiest thing to catch my attention was going to snake ...

Biking in the Green Lung of Bangkok

... And all we had to do was take a taxi to a certain area of Bangkok called Klong Toey, find a particular temple near the river, and then cross the river by boat.

When we arrived, we rented bicycles to get around. Jacquelyn was nervous because she said she has forgotten how to ride a bike. (Apparently, she had tried recently and didn't manage very well.) But after a few shaking minutes, she got the ...

Vanskelig å sove når Bangkok aldri sover!

... varm.

... to. Cost us 60 Baht but Mandy said she would have paid $60.

We walked from the station to the river where we stumbled about, trying to find which dock was appropriate that our ferry. Eventually took a tuc-tuc to the right dock, where we had a lovely lunch in a restaurant overlooking the river traffic. Then we took a ferry upstream, and walked north from the Grand Palace we have seen a couple of days ago, past Wat Phrakew ...

One night in Bangkok

... and the hotel is half the price of the Pinnacle Hotel, just 600 baht for the night. Great! I get to my room and it's actually pretty decent, although I did notice quite a few gay men around the hotel. My friend comes to meet me around 7pm and we go over to Patpong to do some shopping. Then around 8:30pm another friend joins us and we go to Chinatown for dinner.

Back in Bangkok

... into our faces and we were forced to close it. Later on, at Udon Thani, a young woman boarded and sat opposite us with her (perhaps) five year old son who was wearing an imitation US Army uniform (complete with cap) and carrying a plastic AK47.

I always sleep well on trains (when a bed is provided) and that night was no exception. At first light the steward, seeing that I was awake, politely asked me to step down from my bunk in order for him to remove the linen ...
