Road 2825 Block Al Seef 248 Building 2109 Manama, Bahrain
Out of the widow Bahrain looks like lots of dust with skyscrapers on. Inside it is a strange mix of Christmas decorations lots of tour groups who look like they might be going on pilgramage, 25k rolexes in duty free, mcdonalds, costa and free internet to keep us amused. We've got 2hrs to kill - body clocks already out of sink! Am going to try and learn some nepalese from a podcast.
Bahrain, Bahrain paulandvicki... But I later realized that the hills didnt actually sweep into the town, they were outside the town. (Pardon my illuision!). We entered the SAPTO busstand there which was quite the opposite of lonesome-boy it was packed! It was there that I made a call to Manoj in Jeddah. He asked me where I was and I said that I was entering the last lap of my journey and that I was in Al Taif. He said" Dont miss having a good look - it is like the hill station, Ooty, in India!"<br><br>The ...

Manama, Bahrain paulngailNot much - just waiting at the airport for the flight! Bahrain was both nicer and more boring than I thought, the weather is a lot more forgiving but it's not worth more than about 3 days exploration tops.. Unless you like to get really nittygritty :P<br>

Bahrain, Bahrain m_eidan... they have strange closing times and subsequent backdoors to the club where they make you wait 10 - 15 minutes in the shadows...it felt a bit suspicious and we had a sunrise flight so we left early. The Bahraini from Saudi Arabia who drove us back told us, and showed us, how Saudis get through bottleneck traffic on a Thursday night in downtown Manama. It was pretty exciting really. ... Manama, Bahrain showme... Springing into action (did I mention Colin was with me in the Trooper?) I climbed up my roof ladder to get the second spare tire (the first was used in May and not replaced yet) and then hauled out all my equipment and gloves. Poor Colin - I had to turn off the vehicle because as I was putting the jack under the truck I kept getting mouthfuls of exhaust. All this is 40 degree Celsius weather. Things went smoothly and it actually didn't take long to get the Trooper ...
Manama, Bahrain shadocg... for now, the twin towers that look like dueling pianos, a sharp knife-like building sweeping and twisting through the air, even the working Visitors' Center (minus the facade)--all fantasy. And that was what I realized made me feel so strange about Bahrain, I realized as I walked along the shore past all the rusty fishing boats with people cooking shellfish on them. I was approaching the construction site for wide seaside boulevard, the stones piled high like Smithson's ...
Manama, Bahrain traveeseMade it to Bahrain. Nice enough flight but there seemed to be a lot of people complaining and a lot of babies crying plus one guy getting very, very drunk. Anyway, I'm in the waiting lounge to connect to Mumbai and there's free espresso and bourbon biscuits whilst I fiddle on the free internet connection, so not too bothered. UPDATE: and I've just found the camembert and Roquefort.
Manama, Bahrain swhale... a long time, and several civilizations have built fortresses on this site which is one of the few accessible to ships because of the coastal reefs which surround the island. The reconstructed fort is from the time when the Portuguese ruled, and it is huge, surrounded by a wide and deep moat. Driving along the north coast (and through several small towns, including one where school was letting out for lunch), we arrived in Budaiya, where the king has one of his palaces on the water ...
