We're in Burgundy drinking Pinot Noir...

Yes it is true. We worked our way up to Beaune, and just like in the Rhone, have not been dissapointed at all. We explored the tiny towns of Pommard, Volnay, Mersault, and Satenay, and got to try some amazing wine from all places. We even tried a place in Pommard and then headed over to his son's winery in Mersault (the son's was actually better than his Dad's stuff!) The only word of caution if you come wine tasting ...

A weekend in wine country

... the car to make our way to the hotel. We checked in and the lady was less than pleased to help us. She was not very friendly to say the least. Either way, we got up to our room and dropped our stuff before heading out for dinner. It was only about a 15 minute walk to the center of the city from our hotel. I think we spent 20 minutes once in the square trying to find a restaurant with something for everyone. Eventually we decided on the first place we looked at... go ...

Dijon is not playing fair

I only stayed for one night here because there was nothing in particular that I wanted to see, I just came to see what it was like. I caught the train back to Paris and had to use a different train station because Paris has several, all of which have trains going to certain places. My metro ticket should have expired but the other morning it had worked so I tried it again. After a couple of goes it was accepted, Yes! Machines can be foiled, and then 'stole' my way to Gare De ...

All the way to Burgundy

... which was lit up quite spookily. Beaune is a place we would definitely like to come back to and to explore properly.

We only had time to walk around a small part of the town, but it seemed quite sleepy: the bars were closing up at about 10.30pm. We trooped back to the campsite and had a late beer sat by the Bongo. Toppling into the van to sleep we were both shocked at how warm it still was - sleep seemed ...

Dijon update

... was white asparagus, sold only by the kilo. Guess what we had for dinner... a kilo of asparagus, and couscous. Unfortunately, that much asparagus is apparently bad for one's digestive fauna, and we have since been searching for probiotic yogurts. Out of the Rhoe Alps into Burgandy. The hills have become less steep, almost flat, the rain stopped day before yesterday, and the wind is now a light breeze! We discovered Camping a la ferme. These are small campgrounds ...

Sarah from New York and Kir

... that the French will have 2-3 Kirs every night before dinner, jeez! we had dinner at this great Italian restaurant and then called it a night. Sarah had work early in the morning so she needed to get to bed and we were tired from all of our travels. i am so glad we ran into Sarah because not only was she very helpful and nice, (very lucky on our first day in France) but we had a lot of fun and learned a lot more about Dijon than we would have on our own.

Dijon

In Dijon the show was at a very small club called Deep Inside. We actually had some time to walk around. The city is just lovely. As you approach it, you see all these wonderful old buildings that seem like they are tumbling over a hill. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday and the shops were all closed. So much for finding some souvenir moutard.

Well fed and ready for bed we retired for the night. A town square, Dijon Bishop gave me his blessings... More costumed festivities, Dukes festival. Dijon and the Grapes Harvest Labour (Beaujolais)

... room was closed and she was trying to make us out... so we hurried to get ready and to get the breakfast which we ate on a bench in a nearby park. But waaaaahhh I'm totally feeling bad and the cold isn't doing better, my head want to explode. We walked and got out of Dijon which was a long walk. Our luck is that finally at a third car a British guy going to St-Tropez stopped and hitched us until Belleville Train Station. He was pretty cool and weird though. Again ...
